Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

it makes no sense the richest c ountry in europe doesnt want to win
they could if they made better effort to

The UK is not the richest country in Europe!

Anyways it all comes down to how rich the broadcaster is and how much the states and/or private sponsors are willing to put into their broadcaster's production of the contest.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

they are the richest in my opinion
with plenty of money and artists to win

Ehm?

A country is either the richest or not, has nothing to do with opinion.

But yeah, their broadcaster is one of the richest ones and they have a "rich" music scene if that's what you meant... but the richest country they are not and these are facts not opinions.

Well I dunno what your point is really, but they are not the richest country in Europe and that's just it, there's nothing to have opinions about really.

As for their music; obviously it's a matter of taste, but yes they are the biggest music market in Europe, that is true.

As for how much they are willing to spend on Eurovision; none of us knows that, so we could just speculate, but BBC are having economical crisis now though (as a result of whole UK having it basically).

United Kingdom could easily win if we sent Cheryl Cole or somebody. The point is that the majority dont care if we win or not. I know Eurovision is taken very seriously in Romania but in the United Kingdom it's not.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

And on the richest dispute, the United Kingdom is the second richest country in Europe, after Germany. We probably do have some hidden treasures, locked up in America or something but it's certainly nothing we know about! But that does not mean that we have lots of money to spend. The government is cutting the BBC budget and with people loosing benefits, jobs and their homes, Eurovision isnt really a priority. So there will be as little money spent this year as any other year. That's why I think it's best to settle for a not very famous person like Josh Dubovie again, Jo O'Meara, perhaps Cyndi, to sing a good song (not made by a 'famous' songwriter) and that way we could do well I think whilst keeping it cheap.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

The UK has such a big potential for great songs. In our charts often british songs are in the TOP10. So I think, the BBC should try to send a wellknown singer to ESC. Of course, success isn´t sure, but with a great song, the UK has the chance to win.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

I've probably said this before somewhere, but there is no incentive for big UK acts to enter Eurovision. Many such acts already have a high profile in Europe and already make plenty of money from their craft. Eurovision is largely seen as a comedy show in the UK. If you win, who cares? You've beaten 24 rubbish comedy acts no one has ever heard of. The only impact Eurovision is likely to make on an established act is public ridicule for coming last.

I don't think winning Eurovision should be a country's only motivation to enter. There are going to be about 40 losers every year, so such countries will have to get used to disappointment. Of course, I want UK to win, but there's no way I'd suggest any country withdraw if they aren't in the top ten every year.

BBC made an announcement today that it won't be very long before we get more details on the selection process.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

the british should never see it as a joke or comedy act
thats bs and very rude

In your opinion, not in the opinion of the 50 million people who dont take it seriously ;). Im a fan but I realise it's not healthy to take it seriously, you've gotta have a laugh at some of the songs and people, it's British humour ;).

It's not healthy to make fun of something that many does take serious though and laugh them in their face.

There's a difference between having a good time and laugh at something, that attitude sucks.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

People can take Eurovision however they want it. Some people take it die-hard seriously, others not so much. There's nothing wrong with either...
And what's the point in watching something if you cant have a laugh??

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

Well it's not doubtful... about 8 million out of 61 million people in the country watch Eurovision so presumably the other 53 million dont take it seriously. Then out of the 8 million that watch it, Id say 65% of them watch it for a laugh and a bit of fun, with the remaining people watching it seriously. It's not rude, it's fact!
Anyway this doesnt have any relevance to our 2011 entry really and it's making me sound like I dont like Eurovision so Im not saying anything else on this now .
