There is an amazing Mancunian busker called Tom Sumner. He's in Manchester every time I go shopping and he's a brilliant singer and I think he'd do us proud representing the United Kingdom at Eurovision :D.
This is a video of a performance of his from yesterday (dont like the dancer though ):

And a couple of his covers:

Aww really? I think his sheer enthusiasm would 'astound' Eurovision audiences.

He's certainly one of the better buskers in town. With a good song, who knows, he could be terrific.

Maybe you should persuade him to send a tape to the BBC next time you see him. ;)

Hmm again i have no idea how reliable, but some rumour on various fansites, seem to say Charlotte Church is in deep discussions with the BBC and the BBC have Katherine Jenkins in negotiations too :) So from that Charlotte Church is most likely and Katherine Jenkins if the deal with Charlotte falls through :p hmm at least we'll have a credible artist, but Charlotte's new songs majorly suck :/

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

Charlotte Church rumours n stuff, perhaps we all forgot this :p

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMZn7ZXkvR8

i suppose at least she watches it, but eh she does swear rather a lot -.-

This is hows it followed on:

In her video blog entry for 22 March 2007, Church referred to the UK's Eurovision entry, Scooch, as "absolute s**t" and went on to say, "I've never seen s**t like it, because Scooch really are s**t." Russ Spencer of Scooch hit back, saying, "What a pity the voice of an angel has acquired the mouth of a sewer." Spencer's fellow band member Natalie Powers added, "As a mother of a young child myself I find her behaviour and language quite unacceptable. What kind of role model is this for a mum-to-be?" Church hit back by saying on her Channel 4 show, "They called me attention seeking ... then what's doing the Eurovision dressed as air hostesses?"

Unsure how i feel about this:

1. Foul-mouthed woman
2. Bad opinion of Eurovision
3. At least she watches to judge this
4. If she thought Cyndi's song was "reasonable" then if she does represent us she'll want a very good song

Other Notes:
1. Album Flop UK 2010 (peaked at 23)
2. lead-single Flop UK 2010 (48 in charts)

But regardless of that, she has a good voice, and a good song is all that matters or :/ hmmm.. i think Katherine Jenkins is a MUCH better choice
:/

Well Schooch's entry was crap and an embarrassing for the UK so she was totally right on that one.

As for her single/album flops you'd really believe that someone with success in the UK would consider Eurovision really?

Katherine Jenkins who is branded the most sucessful classical UK singer at the current time is apparently also in talks ;) her albums hit top 10s ;D

Despite all the negatives about Church, getting her involved would be playing to our strengths. We have the potential to get the big guns involved and take Eurovision, assuming anyone with the name power would be interested. Church's name alone may be enough to take this year's ESC if she indeed enters.

Chances are it will be another no name though.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

I stumbled across that the other day and found it rather pleasing. It shows that (a) Charlotte Church watches Eurovision and (b) she cares. I didn't like Scooch either, so would add (c) she has taste.

I actually quite liked Back To Scratch, the lead single from her album, but didn't hear it until the Eurovision rumours. That shows how bad the promotion was. She was all over the TV, but every time she seemed to sing a different album track; the result being that I never remembered any of them. Therefore, I would add (d) she's getting bad advice from her management and so might actually do Eurovision.

BBC are expected to make an announcement this week - but it'll mostlikely be Charlotte Church who'll represent us.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2011

Not to add fuel to the fire, but i've always been a big fan of Ms. Church (away from any Eurovision relation) and there's been rumours about Charlotte releasing "Back To Scratch", the first single from her new album in European territory backed with the new album. Now, I may be reading in to this too much...but a) the official video on Charlotte's official youtube page has now been blocked in the UK, b) this could be a mega promotion tool for "Back To Scratch" in Europe so Charlotte could be looking at it from that respect, and c) the song premiered just after September 1st 2010 so could actully be eligible as a Eurovision entry.

So i'm just thinking, that maybe something is definetly going on and they're looking at it from this angle as oppose to a brand new song. Maybe Charlotte is looking at a possibility of re-releasing it in the UK to coincide aswell, considering it didn't even chart back in October.

Just adding my thoughts, but it's a very related possibility?

Even though she's not necessarily my type of artist I'm still quite surprised and excited to see if the BBC have actually put effort in and got someone famous

I don't doubt for one minute that whatever song she enters, it will turn up on her album as a bonus track and then be flogged across Europe. It does make a kind of business sense for her to enter Eurovision.

How well is Charlotte known in Europe? I know as the Voice of an Angel she was big in UK, US and Ireland, but a quick look at her wikipedia entry suggests she only had mainland European chart success in the Netherlands.
