Oh I'm gutted. Ukraine is such a power in ESC and it's sad to see they won't be there in Tel Aviv. That said this entire thing has been a farce and they really need to bin this NF.

Though I disliked this entry, it feels eternally sad that things had to end this way. I hope that Ukraine will soon come back stronger.

It is really sad to hear those news about the contract, bans, fines and then seeing Ukraine withdrawing.

Do you remember when Eurovision was all about music? Nope, me neither :D

It's such a shame that my favourite country withdraws for a second time. However before people put the blame solely on the contract I like to add a few things:
Penalties/Bans for improvising are actually quite common for live event (because they can't do re-shoots) and temporary copyright rights makes sense for a music event so I don't understand why MARUV says these things are draconian, although I myself haven't been directly involved in live television and music events I have seen enough behind the scenes stuff to know these things are standard.

What? Are we talking about the same Sweden where people are prosecuted for making "hate speech" on social media?

Yes what about it? Hate speech isn't about disliking something, you're fully free to express your opinion as long as it doesn't cross the line. You can't for example threaten or express disrepute against minorities/ethnic groups. I'm not stating our freedom of speech is perfect, but I'm still proud of it. You're american and you should relate to how you can sue someone over the most ridiculous things. As you questioned my countrys freedom of speech, you must surely agree with the opinion that the contract Maruv was asked to sign is bullshit.

He also liked a post calling me a nazi for not liking a fascist regime... that's funny , I guess the "free speech" thing is highly subjective after all  xshrug

I liked it because his outburst was funny. I don't believe you're a nazi, but if I did it would be my right to do so. I'm not the only one who liked it yet I'm the only one who gets targeted for it?

I wonder if he's one of those who claim to be champions of free speech then try to censor free speech as soon as it goes against their narrative.

You no longer have to wonder, I have never censored anyone or anything in my entire life.

So much drama. Relax people. In a few years this will be just another typical ESC footnote in the Eurovision history

What a mess, all that to get to the withdrawal. Very disappointed that the selection was politicized at this point and especially very sad for Maruv :(

If only there can be a competition that Maruv still gets to ESC and the big 5 pays for it. If she wins, they can roll the dice who's going to host among them next year.

This seaosn is really cursed: Finally a fan fav wins that was for once now sabotaged by the jury directly, she gets sabotaged indirectly. We really cannot have nice things. :(

There is nothing right in this decision. Maruv is the winner. Give her what she deserves. This is nothing but a violation of human rights, she is still the rightful owner and holds the rights of representing Ukraine at Eurovision. She is robbed. Siren Song is robbed. ECHR DO SOMETHING FOR MARUV!

They invited her to perform in their selection, she was then interrogated about her business in Russia, then she is deprived of a chance to participate because the broadcaster decided that something they knew about when they first approached her is suddenly unacceptable? Then the Ukrainian people pick a really good song with a really good performance, the broadcaster scraps the artist and number, then withdraws. What a mindfuck. Wow.

Don't know how anyone can blame Maruv when Freedom Jazz, Kazka and Brunettes Shoot Blondes (lol that name) all thought the contract was equally shit
