Re: UKRAINE 2019

I support Maruv fully in each of her decisions.

It would be a great shame for her , after all , to represent UKR

So now MARUV is saying she won't represent Ukraine even if they give her the contract she wants. Isn't that a bit disrespectful of all the people who voted for her? It's almost like she used the drama to get more attention and promote Siren Song to masses. :(

Yesterday I was still clinging to that hope that they would undo that whole situation. :(

if this is true then yeah i am disappointed too. what do you even want then, maruv?

I think she really did want to represent Ukraine, but she didn't really know what that would entail. She probably wouldn't even be ok with a basic EBU contract because she'd find it too restrictive or something.

Re: UKRAINE 2019

Oh yes, Verka going to Tel Aviv would be the climax of a democratic choice of a representative. Let the public vote, bully the winning artist out (who was clearly NOT the favorite of the jury) and then one member of this very decides he would go himself. A complete PR disaster!
Actually Verka gave her the highest jury points & supported her afterwards  She's still thanking Verka publicly.

Moreover it was MARUV who refused to sign the contract and blamed EBU's demands for that too.

When is the deadline? In a few days, when the situation de-escalates a little bit, I could see people's opinion changing, especially because the contract really isn't all that bad.
The representative will be announced until March 8-10.

Well that’s that then. As someone who supported her right to perform, I can’t help but feel let down that this saga has quashed any desire on her part to compete at Eurovision. Seems a little unreasonable if she was to be offered a new contract that was fair game, but I guess it’s understandable that she wants nothing to do with UA:pBC anymore. It’s a shame because the Eurovision experience for the artists is so much more than just their obligations to the broadcaster, as we all know, and the potential was ripe for her to make such a success of it.

+ she said she's against EBU's demands. If she does some improv on stage the broadcaster will be fined, she will pay 65k€ fine.
Alyosha paid the EBU 30% of our participation fee in 2010 as a fine.
So I don't get the fuss over 2 million UAH :?

2 Million UAH would provide me a lifetime of sushiya xheat

i still resent this channel so damn much for being dumb and making it about politics. if maruv refused the contract and they kept it quiet, i am sure freedom jazz or kazka woukd have accepted it. now the best NF of europe will send 0 entries to eurovision. sigh.

Re: UKRAINE 2019

I think Verka (if her comments were serious) could really salvage something good from this mess the organizers have got the country into. She'd be the media darling of 2019 and we'd soon forget about everything that happened beforehand as it's Verka freaking Serduchka. We've wanted her back at Eurovision since forever.

Tayanna would be all kinds of LOL. I think she also could be kind of a redeemer pick, and one that wouldn't cause much controversy (unless she's got any skeletons in her closet). She's come second place in these selections twice, right? Has a song ready that's good, and doesn't have to carry too much guilt if she went. Sure, she dropped out which led to MARUV filling her place in the NF but she doesn't have to feel like she was the public's second, third or fourth favourite, etc.

Jamala who I've seen some people mentioning (hopefully jokingly) would be an absolutely tragic choice. I wouldn't be able to watch. I like her music very much and I supported her hard back in 2016 but it would be excruciating to see her return to Eurovision after the scandal this year. She'd be ravaged by fans and I don't want to experience that. I don't agree with her questioning during the selection but she's still got a place in my heart, and I just don't want to live through that car crash. I'd have my fingers in front of my eyes.

Re: UKRAINE 2019

in one forum I read that Ukraine will definitely take part and announce the representative next week, in another, they say, Ukraine has officially announced withdrawal. Anyone who has a reliable information? or is this all fake?

But Maruv didn't keep it quiet, in fact she couldn't even wait one day to post parts of the contract and then even lie about stuff. In fact it becomes clearer and clearer that this was just a publicity stunt, the fact that she refused it even when they adjusted it.

i meant the channel staying quiet, clearly. let maruv do her thing and look bad, then select someone else because then they wouldn't refuse.

they didn't do that, acted a fool, and now have withdrawn with no dignity and as the joke of the year. too bad. see you in 2020 (sergey is 100% without a doubt not winning unless ebu really wants a second political nightmare host in a row).

This is tragic. I feel bad for the Ukrainian Eurovision fans and the artists who gave their time, energy and money for nothing. Such a catastrophe. What more is there to say? It's just all very sad.
