Well...at least it was a very entertaining drama! Only Ukraine can produce such stuff.
I even logged in this forum after 2 years of absence  Actually for clicking at "12 points" in the poll. Maruv still is awesome, and definately not a loser in this case. The loser is the Broadcaster with its political freak show, I'm sure Jamala is already very sorry for these accusing Crimea/Russia questions, because journalists can google and now everyone knows that she performed in Russia several months after the annexation. The only difference is that Maruv does it openly and Jamala did it at private parties. She can be proud of herself, she spoiled not only her reputalion, she spoiled the whole Eurovision season for Ukraine.

This seemed like a foregone conclusion, but it's still hard to believe. Wow.

It's not the end of the world. Countries miss ESC all the time for all kinds of reasons.

Re: UKRAINE 2019

It's official?

Sad news...

Some anti-Ukrainians on this forum will be happy for sure, and I feel like Maruv is secretly happy as well since she sorta created the shitstorm and Russia won yet another hybrid warfare against Ukraine... sad really

I don't really see it as a win for Russia, tbh. Unless they see Ukraine's absense from Eurovision as a win. Which, why? They would have had a guaranteed 12 points from the public and feel a moral victory with Lazarev's win over the Ukrainian representative.

I don't know if it's a win for anybody. Maruv definitely will get something out of it, but she could've gotten even more had she gone to Tel Aviv.

I think it's a message to all the Ukrainian acts who think they can perform in Russia with no reprocussions at home. Despite Maruv's presene in Russia, and some poeple being very much against her representing Ukraine because of it, she got very close to doing so. Had she ended up going through, it would be a sign that performing in Russia will not bar you from representing Ukraine in Eurovision. Now, this will serve as a filter between who can and can't go.

I love how the broadcaster makes MARUV the big elephant in the room by stating that she refused to sign the contract lol

This is so embarrassing. To have had an entire national final, televoters voting for songs week after week. And then comes nothing.

And Maruv literally turned down an opportunity to have a European smash. Basically chose her Russian record label / fanbase over gaining Fuego level success.

Disappointed.

This , except for the "Fuego level success" I think... yes with the performance this could be a hit in ESC... but the song is rather flat imo...

Also, ESC entries struggle to cross-over in general and also Eastern acts almost never cross-over to Western markets where the big cash is so I think she's satisfied with becoming more popular in Russia for now... after all Russia is VERY welcoming lately of Ukrainian acts that choose to make it big there, no surprise really since it's also used of course in the propaganda war against Ukraine and the west "hey look you can make it big here, forget about trying in the west... welcome to Russia your real home, you choose us over Ukraine and yadda yadda yadda"... so for sure her career will get a proper boost in Russia now, I hope it'll all be worth it in the end though... but hey ... it's all about the money really and if she, her label and her management think there won't be a big chance in the west anyways, then Russia is the best shot at some success... still stupid behavior from her side though because if she'd played it cool and went to ESC, she could have still focused on Russia afterwards and also gain from entering ESC xshrug
