Easiest 12 I think I've ever given. I was a huge fan of Jamala back in the day and still love her happy, upbeat songs like 'Shine' and 'It's Me Jamala' but my god this song just blows them out the water. I'm so happy to see something so sincere and emotive on the ESC stage, especially with the inclusion of the Tatar chorus. Awesome choice Ukraine, expect votes in May xlove

It's not an easy song nor in the musical sense, nor in the lyrical sense.

And I really admire it for that.

Yes, the lyrics are a little clumsy and could have used more subtletly, but I just love to have songs that differ from the well-known topics of love and generic "peace and let's all get along". The music, my God, it seems like the theme song from an incredible epic it's just starting, it really wants me to know more.

Not perfect by any sense, but for the ambition and balls to having a unusual subject, as well as being musically emotional to unexpected degrees, 10/12.

Ukraine never learns... today we send political message again.

I don't mind the song itself... it's masterpiece. But let's admit people chosen Jamala not for her voice or entry. They voted her because she's Crimean and singing about Crimea that apparently was seized by Russia recently. I am still sure our audience is tasteless, and we have different results for top-6 thanks to fan communities. If internet didn't exist, we could go for Greenjolly for second time. This is a bit different case but very similar.

I don't see it flops in May..not. But "pure" 6-9 place or lower is guaranteed. Though, i don't want such controversial message to represent Ukraine. We are not perfect, yet we are guilty of most our problems. Since people in Europe will take this song as political anyway, should we lie to ourselves keeping saying "context is about history"?

The Hardkiss were the best tonight. Slayers, top performance. Julia - I love you!

This final was obviously rigged and juries just made a hints what is happening (like Danylko asking for two participants if they are not upset in case of not winning tonight, or Meladze openly judging what is wrong for Jamala's future performance in May and how she should improve it until March). Danylko voted for Nuangels not because they share producer or he likes song. He just knows that this thing is already decided by politicians or whoever it is and as a wise person he doesn't take whole selection seriously (remember 9 for BSB in 1 semi and only 7 pts to Jamala?).

I had much fun during all past weeks, but i feel not sure about how it's turned out.

It's great, but by no means a shoe in for the win.

I think that 1944 it's not a type of the song for ESC audience vote for. In other hand, the Hardkiss and this simphonic metal is for ESC too. So, the right thing to Ukraine would be picked Sansay. Well, let's see waht will happen in Stockholm.

I don't think the majority of love for 1944 is coming from the lyrics - it's just a really good song, in my opinion. Face The Shadows had a vague political opinion that I also agreed with in the same way as Jamala's entry, but I had that as something like my #37 for last year, while this is #1; musically, this is just a hell of a lot better. As long as the lyrics of 1944 didn't actively go against the atmosphere of the song, I probably would have liked it just as much whatever they were, and I assume the same is true of most fans of the song. Plus, I doubt the large majority of us can understand the Tatar parts anyway.

Are there political undertones? Yeah. Did those undertones boost Jamala's support both in Ukraine and internationally? For sure. But I feel like, even without them, we'd be seeing a hell of a lot of hype around her song - it's emotional, unique, breathtakingly performed and more, and it really stands out against the other 12 or whatever songs we've got so far.

Why didn't people vote for Tarabarova or Prikhodko for the same reasons? If anything, those songs are about all Ukrainians not just Crimean Tatars.

Trying to discredit Jamala's victory as just "politics" is lazy and inaccurate.

xshrug now many people blaming us in double standards (e.g. Polish for tragic murders in Volyn in 1944 btw). I don't want people to judge message instead of actual song.

What double standard? Who's stopping Poland from singing about Volyn?

Well at least by voting for those kind of entries, the people of Ukraine managed to forget the need to do well in ESC and actually sent good entries. Greenjolly is far superior to anything else Ukraine has sent to ESC.

We've had lots of political songs in the past but most of them failed because they were crap. This is #1. I don't care about the message: is it political? Well, ok. Why not. Is this a good song? Hell yes.

I mean, just... let's take it easy. It's a contest. I see many people arguing, I'm kind of fed up with it xhug

Amazing song. But very few of my non ESC fan friends like it or even understand it. I still have it 12 ofc. Ukraine will be hard to beat this year.

This is for me really Lasha Tumbai-Russia Goodbye #2. Guys, look what you're doing. What Volyn tragedy? What are you talking about? For goodness sake, the song and performance are epic!! It is as far political as you yourself put in it, and as much you put in it, as much you are out of it... and there is pretty very much. Shows what's inside of you and your heart :(

Yeah, I can definitely see Ukraine struggling to attract support from non-ESC-fans this year. Don't get me wrong, I think the song is powerful enough to qualify without much issue and nab a decent spot in the final, but I expect that'll be mostly on the backs of juries and some ardent fans; the song isn't exactly designed for mass appeal in the same way that Sweden's usual fare is. I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong, though, if that meant Jamala ending in the top 5 or better!

this is absolutely not a song for the big crowd. maybe they will have to change parts of the lyrics which are very political. i dont want to see a political voting between russia and ukraine in the end.
