The 59th of Ugaly's entries:

Yule-tide is upon us! Unusually theme-bound for the normally spontaneous nation, Ugaly's next entry intends to honor the season with such class it can be enjoyed the whole year 'round! These Germans from the Swedish city of Lund, or Tyskarna från Lund, known from the comedy group Varanteatern, are here to put Kraftwerk in their place! Join the synthpoopers in their Christmas celebration and stay alert, Achtung X-Mas!

Re: Ugaly - 60 Editions!

In Which Ugaly Presents Its Sixtieth Nation Song Contest Entry and Makes Obscure References to Children's Literature:

The best of several worlds! Powerglove, named after the so bad Nintendo Entertainment System accessory, is a metal band from Boston with a focus on covering video game music. Aside from game music, they've also covered songs from animated movies and cartoons on their latest album from 2010, including this piece. Heffalumps and Woozles is a song from Disney's 1968 featurette Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, also included in the 1977 feature The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, played during Pooh's psychedelic nightmare sequence. Hitting many of the popular strings in Ugaly right now, this as an entry we can proudly present for such a milestone!

Of course, if we're going to send a cover, we'll also have to present the magnificent original:

61 times lucky:

I know what you want to say, but I won't say it. This here American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile showcases a happy, emotional number with Dreams. Related to a very big ongoing Ugly trend, she has managed to make her way to the stage waving our flag, and we'll be supporting her wildly from the sidelines!

Anything else about it that needs saying? I guess not. Listen and enjoy!

An emotional cacophony which riles the senses, causing nostalgic thoughts to come flowing into the mind as fast as white water rapids, and as simply beautiful as the first flowers of the season - one of the more touching NSC entries in a while.

The 62nd attempt has led us back home:

Yeah, so... we won again last edition. Don't ask us how, but we actually did! This not only means yet another prequalification to add to our nation's history (the sixth so far), but a second entry that gets to defend Ugaly's title on home ground. Last time we sent the Ugliest thing we had, so how will we go up from there, how will we do something Uglier than the very definition of Ugly? Well we won't, this time we're just going to continue sticking to our internal trends and go for something we could've sent at any time. The opportunity has gone to Belgian Lunascape and their mysterious and trip-hoppy song Your Shadow. What they lack in travel distance, they make up for in excellency, and they'll have the support of a whole nation standing immediately right next to them, all around them, to help them show it!

Still very Ugly though.

Sixties back for sixtysix the sixtythird time:

Back in the semifinals where we belong, we're going to go back even further with our song. The Like are a 21st centry modern group, but they play with a retro style as an old 60s troupe. With a fitting video that has all colors shed, they'll play with anger to make him be Wishing He Was Dead. We're rhyming this presentation for no reason worth note, but we hope you won't be afraid to give Ugaly your vote.

Woah, liking this Joch. Really retro, and its something different to what you've sent in a while.

Vocals work really well particularly the backings - they complement the song particularly well. Love the feel of the video, and the overall authentic aura of a 60's style band.

All while NSC 66 is happening at great speed, let us have a look at where the artist of Cleoreantia's current entry originally came from. The fifth retroactive Lurkin' Bird:

For Ugaly's fifth appearance, the third in a semifinal, poor timings led to the public national final being scrapped for the first time in favor of an internal selection (not to ever reappear as a permanent event). Lifted up by Lurkovision to compete in NSC 8 in Gabriel was something we had great hopes would be able to break our streak of poor results, German group Guano Apes with their cover of Alphaville's 80s classic Big in Japan. Initial reactions looked positive, and hopes remained high until the end. Unfortunately, that end came just as swiftly as the rest, with a 15th place in the semifinal, two spots below a first qualification. "Drat" we said, it appears the audience is still not ready for us.

Being one of the very earliest Ugly entries, Big in Japan has become a fair classic in its own right, even though the entry is rather seldom mentioned in the modern age. Lead singer Sandra Nasić made an appearance 26 editions later (NSC 34) competing along with Apocalyptica under the flag of then-Funlandia. Eventually the full group reunited, and can currently be seen on the NSC stage again, but this time not under the flag of Ugaly.

Slightly disappointed but still strong willed, Ugaly went back to the drawing board. Well if we can't do it with this, how will we ever manage to do it? The answer felt so far away, but was in fact just around the corner, and closer to Ugaly itself than anyone could've guessed...

What do you mean late? Heck with it, here's Ugaly's 64th entry:

Like described in earlier presentations, Ugaly's prequalification rate is, results overall considered, surprisingly high. For the seventh time, we're skipping joyfully along to the final without breaking a sweat, and for the first time ever, it has occured twice in the same decade! This opportunity is being thrown at us more often than we have time to prepare appropriate prequalification entries, so what can we do with it this time? Simple enough, we feel like it's been a while, so we've decided to take what we have and just spice up this final with some nice, dark, raw metal to grind your senses. The group is Poisonblack, they come from Finland and they're ready to Rush on the stage to let you hear their fine sound.
