Italy's minority players were so good. They are so international. Paola Egonu, Myriam Sylla, Sara Fahr, Sorokaite. That's 4/5 of the starters minus the libero :O They really are the pride of minority groups all around the world
Maybe Germany should try the same with Turkish players so they stop losing 3-0 against Turkey every match
Turkey didn't let their best player play too much, let's wait for the rest of the matches definitely an exciting tournament!
You are so right! Egonu and Sylla were born Italians, Fahr was raised in Italy and spent almost her whole life there, only substitute player Sorokatie was naturalised Italian in adult age. This is indeed a great statement for minorities, showing they all have the opportunity to be part of a national team and represent proudly THEIR country.
It’s sad, however, that they have to suffer constantly discrimination and allegations from racist minded people who consider them “less Italians“ or not having the right to represent Italy just because of their origins.
By the way, Turkey has already naturalised young star, Cuban player, Melissa Vargas, but she was not eligible to play this Olympics yet according to the rules of FIVB, she needs to wait two years to do so. Probably for the World Cup or the next Olympics she can proudly represent Turkey, which would be a double statement being a dark skin naturalised Turkish and openly lesbian.
As for the match itself, Turkey was an opponent only the first two sets, Karakurt was nulified, she is a top player just need to chill, keep calm and focus sometimes.
