Everyone predicting UK for some reason... Is there something you all know that I don't?

Her Majesty would be an iconic entrant from the UK. Although we would be duty bound to conquer the rest of Europe if you failed to give her all your 12 points! :p

Well, I think my prediction is rather a wishlist based on countries' potential to send good entries and be rewarded for that.

:hu: :nl: :am: :ru: :ee: :it: :se: :pl: :be: :au:

i'm horrible at predictions (last year i declared :at: as a darkhorse contest winner and WELL,) but in my opinion these are the 10 countries that have recently shown the most effort, determination, charm and consistency and are likely to win soon:

:be::nl::ee::lv::se::au::ua::mt::pl::it:

also, observations about the other countries from most to least likely to win:

they have everything but nobody wants them to win: :ru:
have shown exemplary entry selection sometimes this decade, they just need more determination: :fr::de::no:
strong entry selection, but presentation often lacks appeal: :hu::fi::am::sl:
trying to repeat their winning formula and failing miserably, need a kick in the butt: :dk::az:
maybe if they had more money their entry selection wouldn't be a mess, because the potential is there: :is::ro::ba::gr::cy:
seem to be on the right direction but came back too recently for me to tell: :cz::bg:
might randomly win with no effort because they pick entries out of a hat: :ge:
the effort in entry selection is there but it's very misguided: :lt::il::al:
lack a bit of everything but aren't hopeless: :at::rs:
have a long way to go to even start considering a victory: :pt::sm::sk::by::md::me::hr::mk:
will never win if they don't accept they are doing everything wrong: :uk::ie::es::ch:
have everything to win but are too whiny to come back: :tr:

I agree with almost everything you said Alaska49

I'm just not sure I'd place Latvia in the consistent category. Sure, they're fortunes have changed since they changed the NF format, but to be honest if it wasn't for Aminata who wrote both of the winning entries I think we'd possible not have seen Latvia in the final yet. I also wouldn't put Malta in that group, They've shown they want to win, but their NF is so mediocre that if things don't change I can't see it happening anytime soon. I would put Croatia in the "have a long way to go to even start considering a victory' group, HRT's attitude after selecting Nina was really pretty bad.

i get that aminata songs winning both years of supernova might make them look like a possible one person wonder but the other entries in supernova were mostly great too and even if it was just aminata, it was such a jawdropping improvement over what they were before (arguably the most incompetent country of all) that i give them full marks for effort and determination. if they can improve so quickly, nobody else has an excuse other than being broke.

malta's nf is indeed kinda boring and stupid but they have such a consistently strong jury game that it's really just a matter of them striking gold with the voting public. and they have shown improvement in entry selection too; the malta of 5 years ago would have definitely just sent "chameleon" and called it a day. after their jesc success they have been improving exponentially and i think their esc victory is kind of inevitable.

and i thought lighthouse was a croatian work but it isn't even that so i just moved croatia down to the long way to go thing lol

2019: Sweden

No point in predicting further than that. Russia will be back with a vengeance, and Sweden needs to catch up with Ireland in number of wins. Italy has pretty much already been declared the winner this year.
