What's wrong with you people?? I cannot believe how much you are talking about the staging and not about music. I am not surprised Eurovision will never be seen as a song contest.

What did you expect from this guy? Flames, fire, what? Chill.

from the moment it is aired on television, eurovision is NOT just a song contest. the name says it all. euroVISION SONG contest. both song and staging matter in an equal way. and this staging is not good. the angles are bad, the fact that he is sitting behind a piano and even breaking the fourth wall for no reason whatsoever plus the lack of stage presence ruins everything. you don't need flames and fire to make a good staging. take a look at austria, who actually manages to be immersive.

but if you wanna talk about the song that's ok.
it sucks.

I think the staging is brilliant, it shows Duncan as being a singer/musician/talent. He doesn't need the gimmicks, just his voice and his piano.

Every other page follows the same formula, someone's potentially offensive post gets backfired and the same people will tell us the song is crap, the staging horrible and he is a terrible performer. Too much drama. In terms of the song, well to each its own, obviously many like it a lot, and in terms of the staging, hardly anyone has seen how everything looked on the tv screen and we don't know what the final product will look like. We at least can tell the backdrop is fantastic (your words). Obviously not everything is going according to plan, which is rather worrisome at this stage, but I am sure those relatively minor problems have been resolved by the time the dress rehearsal starts. Or that is merely my wishful thinking. :)

I think he is a good performer, because everything feels very natural and true to himself. Modest and rather introvert, yet confident and not trying to be someone who he is not. Totally fine in my eyes.

I would lower the expectations of things being done by the dress rehearsal. I think they will use the dress rehearsal to tweak a few more things and to make sure everything will be in order once the jury/ family show starts. That's when it counts, after all.

I say this because Ilse mentioned how they're on schedule, which makes me believe they always intended to use the rehearsals to try things out, especially to get the best impactful staging, to really blow people's minds, you know?

Thanks.

That it's not good enough for some is totally fine, there are just different ways to put it.

Well, I'd say all the naysayers get much more hate from the fans than the naysayers themselves produce, just check the comment section for the related esc review video.
"Anyone who dislikes this has no heart, is just jealous, understands nothing about music", etc etc.

For me, the song sucks. I also disagree with "everything feels very natural and true to himself". For me personally, it is a masterpiece in fakeness - it's actually so good at being fake that people don't see it is such anymore. Of course, that is just my opinion. :-)

This would be a perfect winner. I would like music to win again instead of a political message. Arcade actually has the potential to enter the charts and playlists across Europe instead of being forgotten by Monday. I would like to have a tasteful winner again instead of a chicken dance. I would like Eurovision to be back in the heart of Europe, far away from political controversy, and it's always great if the winner has not won in a very long time or if it is a first-time winner.

Haha well I am not representing the fans of the Dutch song, some comments were really painful to watch indeed. In the ESC United video, three out of four were praising the song to the sky, and because one didn't like it some were going nuts. Do these people actually realize that you don't need a 100% approval rate to win the contest?

I think the majority of those are people who don't give a damn about the Eurovision song contest or other country's entries and are just ridiculing themselves because there's something to win and cheer for.

Well anyway, I wish everyone a great Eurovision week. :D

I'm so proud of Duncan. He's such a nice guy, down to earth, friendly to everyone. On top of that I think Arcade might be the best entry we ever had. Whatever happens, I'll be looking back to this Eurovision season with such warm feelings. And that's completely because of Duncan

I dont get all the drama about staging. Song itself is so good that even with the worst possible staging, this is going for a win.

Not my absolute fav, but still in my top. 10 and still growing (possible top.3 soon...), so if it's between this and most songs currently in the top. 10 odds, I would like to see a Dutch win...

For those of you complaining about piano/keyboard thing: if somebody doesn't want to vote for this song just because of that or thinks such a small detail ruins the song, then the song and the singer doesn't really need such a vote.

Ilse DeLange has criticised the production teams staging of the Dutch entry “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence.

Speaking to NOS, Ilse DeLange who is part of the Dutch delegation for Eurovision 2019, has criticised the way in which the entry has been staged by the Israeli production team. Ilse explained that in March the delegation submitted their staging idea to the broadcaster, but that the staging they received at the first rehearsal was not what they expected:

You hope at such a first rehearsal that you are at least 80 percent of the end result, this was very far below.

One element of the staging that Ilse has criticised was the implementation of the light which is to hang from the ceiling.

For us, one thing was very important, nothing should distract from the song. We want it to be very dark, and you actually don’t see any shape, so not even from the fantastic stage they built.

Speaking about the light that the production team provided:

During the first rehearsal it looked like a plastic white ball to us, which was also hung in the wrong place

The Dutch delegation on Thursday ordered a light from a company in Belgium, which was then shipped to Israel on Friday. The delegation then had an additional technical rehearsal on Sunday to ensure that their staging idea could be implemented correctly.

If they can't fix the orb (meaning it's not placed correctly and/or won't function well), they're just not going to use it.

It's interesting to see how the Israeli production team initially didn't listen to several different delegations...
