What a turn of events. I always thought the song was kind of boring, and I didn't genuinely get the hype. But I keep playing it on repeat now. It is not one of my "winner-candidates", but I wouldn't actually mind if Netherlands win it all this year.

Totally not what I expected from the staging to be like but frankly I think the rehearsal was almost perfect. His voice is so good and strong, he doesn't need gimmicks or jumping about on stage. He is so good that he is better live than on the record. I think the piano looks great, very classy. Of course Eurofans know it is a silent piano, but majority of the audience don't. And I don't think pianos are there as a gimmick, they are a musical instrument - is every artist who has a guitar also using it as a gimmick? 10 years ago we had Andrew Lloyd-Webber on the piano and it fit perfectly with the song, just as it does with this song too.

Duncan really does deserve to win. Go Netherlands! :nl:

Not to mention that 2 artists have won sitting behind pianos (1966 and 1994). It will look amazing on TV, I can't wait to see it

Saturday should be a huge step forward I think, the main thing I believe will improved will be the camera angles

(pardon my double post)

Just let him sing over a dark screen with nothing going on, he is still winning. Vocals are on point, staging is OK, that's more than enough for him to win.
Is it a ground breaking winner that will turn a new page in the line of ESC winners? No. But still, yet another decent respectable winner. Like :dk: 2013.

Really nice interview with William from Wiwibloggs! Duncan confirms a real piano will be used, he tells the story of why the staging is what it is, and he says other secrets will be revealed in due time, including what the white ball suspended over him will be used for

Great interview. Duncan is so humble and lovely and funny.

Tbh, I sometimes think that William is going a bit too far, I mean, I appreciate his effort, work and ambition he's putting into Eurovision but watching his interviews makes me feel a bit uncomfortable (sometimes). He's so touchy, you know, touching the hair, arms, etc. of the artists... being a fan of Britney (who's very anxious [rumor has it she's bipolar], I just think that it's sometimes a bit inappropriate to behave like that because you'll never know how the artists react to be touched by strangers, etc.

Seems like the delegation are still trying different things in the rehearsals. This sound so ill-prepared on their part. I wonder if the delegation has even given Duncan a chance to try out the staging before they reached Tel Aviv for the rehearsals.

Duncan said the light ball wasn't working properly (they couldn't hang it or something) and that is why they ended up with 'different' tries.

IMO that is a difficult song to stage and with all the expectations as the #1 favourite coming into this it was always going to have a hard time during rehearsal week. I still don't think they're out of it. Netta was the overwhelming favourite last year but during the rehearsals people lost faith in her a bit because eurovision bubble fans + press had so many expectations that were impossible to match. in the end she won anyway because the song was good and stood out. Yes, other entries catching up now in the odds but he can still turn it around with a good SF/F performance.

Actually I don't think it's very hard to stage. This song could have done with a Portugal 2016 staging and still win it all. I just feel that the things they want to try out just don't translate well on screen.
