Seems like he is sitting behind the piano all the piano ... with a blue background.

He's up in the odds, but hard to judge without having seen a single thing. He sounds great though.

Tumblr, mostly.
my impression that it's fairly boring (sitting DOWN is a monentum-slaying move), but it all depends on whether he can connect with us during the performance. Hard to judge that without pictorial evidence but for me at least, nothing has changed.

I just don't underrstand why they would hire the same stage director who did Sennek last year and Netherlands 2015 ugh
I'll have to see the staging for myself though but I always get nervous if the reactions from the press ain't that great

Lmao they saw they were first in the odds, panicked so hired that stage director to fix the situation. what logic.

I mean yes it does look kinda boring and the reaction was lackluster and I fail to see the relevance of that ball but you should only truly worry if nothing changes for the 2nd rehearsal. Russia has gone full 'look how great I am' with Sergey so not everyone is oh tip top form.

The ball looks so out of place. That stage director should be fired for good. How many acts does it take to finally learn s/he is a one hit wonder...
I like the laser work tho.
Still, this song had great staging potential so I feel it's a shame. Just give this song to Azerbaijan or Ukraine and see what wonders they will do with it.

And the stage director isn't even responsible for the lighting lol.

For me the staging doesn't lift the song, but doesn't break it either.

VERY disappointing. I was hoping that a good staging could lift the song up, but what is that? Simple staging isn't always bad, but I doubt that he will take the crown with this performance.

Well any elaborate staging would not fit the song, so I get what they're going at. Thing is you can't really judge it until you see it on TV, some photos I saw make me think it all looks promising, if they get the camera shots right. I was afraid they were going to try to recreate the video, and green/blue is not a great color combo as it often makes you look sickly. Glad they didn't do that. And let's not forget that he sounds amazing live. Everybody is focussing on the staging and forgetting the singing, which is a good sign I guess as he didn't miss a note.

I don't think Duncan wins but I never thought he'd win anyway, so...

This rehearsal has changed NOTHING.

Staging overall was disappointing. Especially with such an emotional song, you'd expect more. It was a bit lackluster, judging from both the livestream and the snippet on the official YT channel. Then again, I'm not sure why I got my hopes up (maybe due to Ilse being a part of the team?) because last year and in 2017 we didn't do so great with the staging either.

It was crystal clear people would be disappointed. He is the favorite to win. But I don't think he will suffer from this, because «Arcade» is just an incredible song.

I think they're going to a similar approach to Portugal 2017 but I don't think it suits the song and I don't think you can fool people twice with the same trick. I'm not disappointed as I didn't expect anything from Arcade (not really my cup of tea) but this can look right on TV with good camera angles.

So what exactly did you expect, as you expected more?

I should've phrased that better. Not necessarily "more" as in actually more (because, yes, as others have said, less is more in this case), but more emotionally impactful? More overwhelming? Something that impacts your core a bit more? Granted, we haven't seen what it looks like with all the camera angles, I'm basing this off of the press reactions, and I know Dutch people, especially including myself, can be quite critical of their entries.

I guess I also expected the staging to reflect the video more. I suspect the ball is supposed to be the moon that's seen in the video, but it doesn't look like one so far. The lasers are a pretty addition, but they're just lasers. Do they serve a purpose besides supposedly making things more pretty?

I just don't think the performance as a whole is impactful enough right now.
