He performs it very well. At this point I really can't see any other song challenging The Netherlands for the crown. I can honestly see it winning both the jury and public votes. Not since Euphoria has there been a song that feels like such an obvious crown snatcher. Still not my thing, but I can see clearly why it's so loved. Its different from other entries this year, polished yet comes with this alternative, moody packaging + a handsome singer. It's so formulated though that it's impossible for me to derive anything from the 3 minutes, other than the feeling I could be listening to something else. I don't even actively dislike the entry or anything but I find it so plain, even as far as this typical radio friendly indie-pop kind of stuff usually goes. I want to see more indie and alternative music at Eurovision. Outside of the contest it's my thing.. I just want to see it done in a more organic, less try-hard kind of way in the future. Then again I guess you've got to serve your alt-whatever it is with some kind of anthem-esque quality at Eurovision otherwise you risk being dumped on by the fandom (case in point being Austria).
I'll look forward to seeing The Netherlands host though, if they do indeed win. Amsterdam is so pretty.
