I feel like someone looked through my Spotify playlist and just threw in most Mello artists in there and said "Here's the line up".
Should be a good year for me 🙏

But it's really stacked, I would've thought less known names would want to do it right after Sweden already won? Or is it the free ticket to the finals, so no matter what happens you at least won't NQ?

The latest leaked returnees are Medina and Maria Sur.

We also have the first (and maybe only?) surprising name for this year: Kim Cesarion, who was a one-hit wonder back in the early 2010s with "Undressed", is attempting to relaunch his career by taking part for the first time.

I can easily see him just doing a beige Paul Rey/Robin Bengtsson-esque song though so not sure if one should have too high hopes. His song is supposedly written by Albin Johnsén and EMD-Mattias, who sang "Rik" together back in 2016.

Glad to see that Maria is back. Hopefully she can convince the Juries a bit more this Year.

MGP might be no Melfest, but its still worlds better than 80-90% of the other NFs.

The best nordic shows (song quality):
1. Finland
2. Norway
3. Sweden
4. Denmark
5. Iceland

Sweden have had the best Nordic Eurovision entries for a couple of years now, but in general the songs in Melfest have been disappointing. Iceland have been more successful than Denmark in recent years, but in general I would still prefer to watch the Danish show.

Loreen's "Is It Love" would have had a great chance of winning Eurovision 2024 - right? :)

UMK consisted of Käärja and 6 Nonqualifiers/Bottom5-Entries imo, while Melfest had lots of other Songs that could have done well (Marcus and Martinus could have won the Juryvote as well imo.)
If we compare the Positions.

01. Loreen >>> Käärja
02. Marcus and Martinus >>> Portion Boys
03. Smash into Pieces >>> Keira
04. Jon Henrik and Friends <<< Robin Packalen
05. Theoz <<< Kuuma
06. Kiana >>> Lxandra
07. Paul Rey >>> Benjamin

Not to forget that Melfest gave us other great Songs from Maria Sur, Wiktoria, Melanie Wehbe and Laurell Barker that didnt reach the Top7..

The problem with most Melfest entries is that they have very little originality in them. Finland's songs stand out much more. To name an example, the song from Marcus and Martinus has zero originality or edge (good vocals though).

Ok, which Song of UMK was that great and would have come far at ESC?
Given how the public and jury voted this year: Keira, Benjamin, KUUMAA and Robin would be for sure qualifying in my opinion.
  • KUUMAA are just amazing so I saw them Top 10 for sure.
  • Robin's unique stage show and flawless vocal would be enough that the jury would carry him to Top 10.
  • Keira had a girly bop that people were missing a lot in this edition, so with a bit of a revamped staging she had Top 10 potential.
  • Benjamin with a stable vocal performance and more elaborate staging also had Top 10 potential.

So these 4 + Käärijä makes 5/7 viable songs in their selection.

Mello had their Top 3 as options that were for sure qualifying and going to be Top 10. THE pop and songwriter nation with a big established show... just 3/28 were viable...

And the 7 songs from UMK felt more diverse than the whole 28 in Melfest.
