UMK consisted of Käärja and 6 Nonqualifiers/Bottom5-Entries imo, while Melfest had lots of other Songs that could have done well (Marcus and Martinus could have won the Juryvote as well imo.)
If we compare the Positions.

01. Loreen >>> Käärja
02. Marcus and Martinus >>> Portion Boys
03. Smash into Pieces >>> Keira
04. Jon Henrik and Friends <<< Robin Packalen
05. Theoz <<< Kuuma
06. Kiana >>> Lxandra
07. Paul Rey >>> Benjamin

Not to forget that Melfest gave us other great Songs from Maria Sur, Wiktoria, Melanie Wehbe and Laurell Barker that didnt reach the Top7..
Mmm. Can we end this eternal Scandinavian debate? Here are my thoughts about Melfest entries:
  1. Loreen. Well, we know :)
  2. Marcus & Martinus. The laser show was amazing, but the song isn't THAT wow. 7/10th with a bad televote.
  3. Smash into Pieces. A destiny "à la Voyager", so fighting for top ten
  4. Jon Henrik Fjallgren. I'm afraid it would have flopped kinda hard. Let's say around 17th.
  5. Theoz. Surprisingly, it could have been good, as there wasn't really another entry like his. Why not top 5.
  6. Kiana. Same than Theoz, but more top 10
  7. Paul Rey. Huge televote flop in Sweden - and in Europe. Not even sure he would have qualified from the SF of death.
And in UMK:
  1. Käärijä. Well, we know too :)
  2. Portion Boys. Televote smash in SF, but hard flop in final. Possible bottom 5.
  3. Keira. Not a huge fan of the song, but the staging was good and it could have worked well. Possible top 10.
  4. Robin Packalen. Same than Keira, but a bit worse. 15th ?
  5. Kuumaa. Possible final flop too, unfortunately. Around 20th.
  6. Lxandra. "Bridges" finished eighth, and "Something to Lose" is better. Maybe fighting for top 5.
  7. Benjamin. The most unpredictable. I love "Hoida Mut" to death, but I still ignore if he would have finished 3rd or 23rd (especially with his vocals)
To me, the difference isn't THAT huge.

And can we please stop this childish war? :)

Given how the public and jury voted this year: Keira, Benjamin, KUUMAA and Robin would be for sure qualifying in my opinion.
  • KUUMAA are just amazing so I saw them Top 10 for sure.
  • Robin's unique stage show and flawless vocal would be enough that the jury would carry him to Top 10.
  • Keira had a girly bop that people were missing a lot in this edition, so with a bit of a revamped staging she had Top 10 potential.
  • Benjamin with a stable vocal performance and more elaborate staging also had Top 10 potential.

So these 4 + Käärijä makes 5/7 viable songs in their selection.

Mello had their Top 3 as options that were for sure qualifying and going to be Top 10. THE pop and songwriter nation with a big established show... just 3/28 were viable...

And the 7 songs from UMK felt more diverse than the whole 28 in Melfest.

Your Assumptions are solely based on your personal Taste (f.e. Kuuma were never ever going to appeal that much outside this Forum imo). If my Assumptions looked like yours, then half Melfest would reach the Top5. And Melfest had more than only 3 Qualifiers, and deep inside you know this...

Your Assumptions are solely based on your personal Taste
So you understand how it works now. You are giving an opinion which some don't agree with. You aren't necessarily right or wrong as there is no way of knowing how those songs could've done at Eurovision. Marcus + Martinus were strictly a promotion act. They were never going to win. Theoz and Kiana were Swedish domestic fads in my view and way overestimated by the Melfest brigade of fans. Others will disagree but that is the beauty of debate.

"Your statement is wrong because it's based on your assumptions but my opinion is legit because I personally think that the Swedish entries were superior to the Finnish ones" (ironically, based on my assumptions remix).

Who is she? Can you give some context? Sounds like she is quite the character
Gunilla Persson is a known figure for many years in Sweden. She got her fame from being a part of the show Svenska Hollywoodfruar (Swedish Hollywoodwives), where she was known to create a lot of drama and wasn't afraid of fighting with the other wives when they met up. During the show, that had it's last season 2019, she caused a bit of criticism because of helping her daughter, who was 10 when the show started, to become a child star in singing or acting, and having her old mom still living in her house. She is also very christian, a lot more than the average Swede.

I believe though, that most of this is an act. She is clearly overacting on many parts to still create drama and earn a bit of extra cash. She has been treated though very poorly by some media outlets, that even written lies about her and she has been sueing for it, something that still is up in court at the moment.

So yeah, she is quite a character, and if it is true that she is joining MF, I will be laughing cause I can't help liking this crazy old woman.

Thanks for the context!
Is SVT really that desperate for ratings to put a trash TV starlet in the in the lineup?

Genuine bombshell, she's probably the "biggest" artist that has decided to take part in Mello since forever. I thought that Hooja would be more likely as far as epadunk artists go. Very weird that she got accepted, as all of her songs are extremely explicit and not exactly suitable for a family show.
