One question . The second part of the votes were the juries or the public ??
I know all this. I'm just arguing against the notion that Ace's song was something fresh when it really isn't. I don't think it was fresh even in the context of Melodifestivalen as we have had quite a few spoken word/rap pop entries over the past few years.

I can understand if y'all are butthurt, but I wouldn't call coming second, with only a 1 point margin an atrocious event. It's not like she came last with next to no points. It's the only justice that could be served after the atrocious event of today...
To me it's a bit of an oxymoron to say that ESC shouldn't chase trends but should stay in touch. Staying in touch means going by what is trendy at the moment, at least in my book.
I have to disagree, Ace's song is not revolutionary, but I'd still call it up-to-date and fresh in this context...

To be honest, the only song I thought sounded pretty fresh in the Melodifestivalen contest this year was EKO's "Red" as I can't recall the last time we had proper synth pop in the contest.
good choice for sweden imo
and after so many tries i think she deserves it
I totally agree here. EKO's "Red" had everything; a haunting melancholic melody, an original arrangement (at least in the MF context) and a really cool sound. To be honest, the only song I thought sounded pretty fresh in the Melodifestivalen contest this year was EKO's "Red" as I can't recall the last time we had proper synth pop in the contest.
I see what you mean, but what I think there's a difference between desperately chasing (which often ends up contrived or actually dated) or just effortlessly staying in touch...
And again, I don't hate contemporary music as some in here might do, I'm not that prude and music snobby... I think there's good and bad in most genres and most era's of music... and yes I think for the sake of credibility ESC should atleast feel somewhat relevant... I mean cliché ballads aren't gonna make that happen..
