This year is painfully weak, it's on the same level as the late 80s years. Even the editions beween 1998-2004 and 2008 were better and I thought that we'll never have such a poor overall level of songs again, considering the amount of counries that take part. All in all, I like 3 songs from the selected ones and consider another 5 or so OK. Then comes a sea of meh songs and a lot of really awful songs, which just so happen to come from countries that either almost or most of the time qualify... So I'm quite sure that I won't like the qualifiers this year, just like in 2012 and 2013, when almost everything I hated qualified...

Well, I wouldn't be so harsh, though in a way I agree with you. Definitively it is not the best edition of ESC this year - at least song-wise, but after a poor start, I must admit that there are at least 5-7 songs I will love listening to, even once ESC 2016 is over. As for the qualifiers/non-qualifiers, I will say only that I really hope Austria will not qualify. My genetic composition is disintegrated when listening to that song. I cannot explain why, but it is a horrible song with monstrous lyrics. Moreover, while the whole song sounds playful and childish, the singer looks to me a "true piece of a woman", fine example of a female gender and really nothing about her reminds me of innocence nor alike. Awkward. Okey, CatEye, this year, you get my sympathies - I think you speak smartly :)

When it comes to Austria, I'm not that bothered by the song itself(probably cause I can't understand it). It has some charm(it reminds me of Un monde parfait, which I quite liked back in 2005), but they should completely change the staging and her dress, since it looks really kitchy, awkward and as you said it doesn't fit her age. Austria is one of those countries that strugle to get a decent televote result in almost every year, so they probably won't qualify this year, but I really hope they'll improve the staging, cause it's quite cringeworthy now and it screams a bottom 2 result in the semi in its current form.

Probably there is a translation/translations online. But true, I dont need one, and perhaps because of that I hate it so much... I am not even sure that the staging can save this song in my eyes. It is just strange. :)

Last year the Slovenian thread was buzzing all the time, but this year.... No comment. I think this says all about the quality of our entry :)

The fact that last year Slovenia was hyped was because... Slovenia was hyped, indeed. Without reason. Slovenia is one of the countries that is almost always hyped, it was hyped also in 2011 and 2012. And then when their entries do worse than expected, fans go cray-cray as usual. Therefore, I prefer having a song which is good for own merits, rather than being hyped for no valid reasons, like last year. And this is why I almost never join these useless hype-bandwagons. On the other hand I can support this year's Slovenian entry because I like it, and not because people wanna force me or the whole fandom to like it, like it usually happens.

Slovenia is overhyped... Ok.

In 2011, they qualified and got their best result since 2007.
In 2012, they gained attention simply because Vladimir Graić (who composed Molitva) wrote the song, so hoping they would do well was understandable.
In 2015, they qualified and also achieved a rather respectable place considering their starting position (one place lower than Maja Keuc).

So overall, the "hype" there may have been around these entries was justified as they got good results with 2 out of 3. I would tend to say Slovenia is underrated actually, there seem to be a "glass ceiling" (around 13th place in the final) they haven't broken yet, that's for sure, but the songs weren't praised based on nothing tbh. Still I've yet to see a massive infatuation towards a Slovenian entry, even last year, the thread didn't go crazy.

EDIT: Let me be clear before I get the inevitable "says someone with Flophal who rigged the Polish NF:" love Charlotte Perrelli all you want. I love her too. But if you're going to be a Charlotte Perrelli superfan, may want to avoid saying things like "I almost never join hype-bandwagons."

Yeah, a point that I forgot to mention in my post was the whole lame argument always used by the fans which is "oh my God, Slovenia is such an underrated country in ESC, no matter what they send they'll always score badly" which really turns me off, since I don't really think that many of the Slovenian entries are that good to deserve higher results than the ones they actually got.

It should be only fair to say that also Slovenia sent a lot of awful songs like 1993, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013, even if the fans don't want to admit it

That's how I feel about Slovenia anyway, so this "overused argument" - as you say - is not lamer than claming they're constantly hyped for nothing and that their most successful songs lately were only fanwanks. They may not have sent masterpieces every single year, but they brought some good entries that deserved to do well, truth is that they didn't quite reach the result one might have expected.

2009, 2012 and 2013 weren't awful songs to me, that's your opinion and you're entitled to give it like everyone else, but that does not mean they were objectively worthless. Lots of good songs failed to qualify for the final since 2004, Eurovision results aren't always related to music quality.

Guys, don't bother wasting time. He's like a broken record and he's been like this for years on another forum where he was permabanned, so he's now here...

2016 marks the first year since 2010 where I haven't supported Slovenia. Sorry guys, I don't think you'll be getting my vote this year. If only you had sent Raiven...

On a related note, flies buzz too- as it does on the Slovenian song this year. I'm quite disappointed with EMA this year. The past few years yielded fantastic songs. This year is just alright, nothing particularly stellar.

Hm, I disagree with 1993 and 2002 - obviously you don't speak Slovenian, cuz if you had, you'd hear and feel these songs differently than you do now. However, I am shocked you haven't added 1996 to your list. That was bad, very bad hahaha.
