My favorite xheart xheat xheat

Although, while I've had to remove her quote from my signature, no one holds a candle to the iconic Florence Foster Jenkins.

I'm not really a connoisseur, but my father is, and I had the opportunity to go to the opera several times. Therefore, I don't know all the "beauty standards" of this genre, so I wouldn't criticize opera singers while pretending I'm an expert. :) Regarding my personal preferences though, I like opera singers who are very nimble with their own voice and at ease with the music they sing, and know how to beautifully hold both powerful and very soft notes. In other words, I admire people who make opera singing look easy (like Malena Ernman, or Nathalie Dessay for instance) but they are only few to be really amazing at coloratura (what I like the most), while people who sound like they're almost going to die after each note irritate me  (I won't reveal any name!)

Well, even though I don't know her work very well, with all due respect to her, she hasn't the kind of voice and vocal training I enjoy from the performances I've seen from her. She vocally lacks depth and variation to me, but again I'm sure she's very good at what she does within her vocal range. ;)

Ah, Tuorem, you always pack your answers with such elegance and dignity - and impress me, even when we might disagree, so it is basically impossible to be angry with you. Alors, tu es marié? :) If not, I would propose you xrose

Perhaps I'm not the one who should be accepting your apology, but I'm quite enjoying this diversion. What more is there to say about the song beyond:

Person 1: It's AWFUL!
Person 2: Aw, come on, it's not that bad.
Person 1: But Raiven was better.
Person 2: Oh, yes, definitely.

I'm Person 2 in that dialogue, by the by. Not one of my favorites, but it's not going to test the special place Slovenia holds in my heart like "Verjamem" did.

I didn't mean to throw another shade at "Blue And Red". Sorry if that's what you understood  I don't have anything against ManuElla and I wish her the best of luck in SF 2. It's just that Slovenia is a very special country for me (both at the ESC and in real life) and I want Slovenians to do well so bad, and as they slayed me almost every year since 2009, I'm kind of disappointed that they chose something more... conventional (sound-wise) this time around.

I don't find the song bad, but I've way higher expectations when it comes to them ;) just my heart speaking. "Verjamem" was GOLD indeed! (Poor Eva, she was the only unknown Balkan singer in SF2 :( I'm sure that's why she failed)

Oh god no! I didn't get shade from your post at all! It does feel like a somewhat more in-the-box pick from Slovenia, but I still get a tinge of the "we'll-do-your-genre-we'll-just-do-it-our-way" feel that I've gotten from them in previous years and that keep them in my heart.

Re: SLOVENIA 2016

Anja Baš - generic pop that goes unnoticed

That's strange because I noticed it.

8- Anja Baš "What If" Doesn't go anywhere

It seemed to go straight to the catchy chorus

Considering other stuff that's far less catchy gets heralded as good dance-pop I don't really see what was bad about this at all. I'd say it was definitely above the Eurovision average, which is low of course but I don't see any reason to hate on this.

Cogratulations, here's a cyber cookie for you. But you are more or less alone, since the only mention that her performance got it in the media was related to her horrible outfit.

Normally Youtube comments are pure internet cancer, but I quite enjoyed reading the (mosty negative) ones on ESC's YT channel. Well appart for the spanish fanboys whining that their song hasn't been posted yet.

Which would just show how shallow they are then, making such comments pointless.

I'm starting to like this. xheart not their best effort, and not something which will trouble the scoreboard but it's pleasant.

A lovely country song that sounds like the real thing: great voice, the lyrics aren't exactly fine poetry but they are not that bad either. Probably one of the most underated entries of the season.

A big plus for me is that there is a lot of banjo sound in it, not so common in ESC..

It's a mix of country and traditional Slovenian po, can be really charming...

I like it more and more...

I enjoyed this song quite a lot from the NF, but i'm starting to enjoy it a lot more. I don't get all the hate for it tbh.

So, my update about ESC 2016. Since almost all entries are revealed, it is becoming clearer who are (non-)qualifiers, potential winners. So, my opinion is as follows:

1st semis: Well, here I see only three sure non-qualifiers - San Marino, Montenegro, and Moldova. On the other hand, sure qualifiers are: Russia, Croatia, and Hungary. About the rest I am not so sure, therefore, I think it is going to be a blood-bath. There are a lot of strong songs and singers, so who will qualify will depend greatly on the staging and dress. Surely, this is the stronger semifinal.

2nd semis: Here the line-up is less strong. In my opinion, here are sooo many mediocre songs that it is almost impossible to tell who will advance and who will stay behind. Sure non-qualifiers are: Belarus, Georgia (though I regret it cuz I like the entry), and most likely also Romania (this can be saved only by juries). Sure qualifiers are: Australia, Serbia, Latvia, Norway, Ukraine, and most likely also Lithuania. So, three tickets are still available - and we still await for Bulgarian entry. I hope Poli will come with something great. The funniest thing here is that the songs that I cannot decide about them whether to put them in finals or not, all have realistic chances to qualify - including (to my great shock) Slovenia, though I was convinced this would never qualify. But the poor quality of songs in the 2nd semi leaves the door open for many many poor acts.

So, what about the winner in the finals? This year I am really happy to see that the big 5 invested more effort into their selection of entries. My top 5 consists of three songs coming from the big 5 countries! I think this hasn't happened ever to me before. So, my top 3 are still and will probably remain (in no particular order): France, Italy, and Russia. Hopefully one of them will take the victory home. Close behind follow Croatia and Spain. I think they have also realistic chances of getting into top 5, or at least top 10. Next, I hope I will see Armenia and Latvia finishing in top 10. Really great entries.

The greatest disappointment of the year is Greece. I think it will happen something no one believed it could, but this year I think they will not qualify. Also Ukraine is very untypical song, and I fear that Europe will overlook it, as I have noticed that ESC fans reacted to it in a very hot n' cold way - either they really, really like it, or they really, really dislike it. Of course, we shouldn't forget about Germany that will also probably climb high if they come up with better staging than that one from their nationals.

The greatest shock of the year are in my opinion Scandinavian entries: not a single of them doesn't seem to be in for the win. Denmark is really ... I have no word for it. Sweden... I don't know. It is an okey song, but it doesn't have that wow factor. Norway, well, I don't get this song (Icebreaker? Come on, the title sounds like she is singing about a boat in Arctic sea). Finland... Well, I like it, but the song is so 90's... Iceland? Sounds ok, but it looks like a spin-off of Sweden 2015...

So this is my summary at this point. I bet some of you will disagree while others will probably disagree totally :) However, this is my humble opinion. Cheers guys.

This year is painfully weak, it's on the same level as the late 80s years. Even the editions beween 1998-2004 and 2008 were better and I thought that we'll never have such a poor overall level of songs again, considering the amount of counries that take part. All in all, I like 3 songs from the selected ones and consider another 5 or so OK. Then comes a sea of meh songs and a lot of really awful songs, which just so happen to come from countries that either almost or most of the time qualify... So I'm quite sure that I won't like the qualifiers this year, just like in 2012 and 2013, when almost everything I hated qualified...
