Re: SLOVAKIA 2012 - Miro Šmajda
Two days ago, Slovak public broadcaster RTVS confirmed via an official statement published on their corporate website that Miro Šmajda would represent the country in Eurovision 2012. Today, the communiqué has disappeared and Miro's management claims it was a "misunderstanding".
The possibility of Miro Šmajda representing Slovakia is not ruled out at all, but it is now in doubt as it seems that some terms of the contract still need to be discussed in order to come out with a final agreement. Anyway, the Slovak broadcaster has the intention to be represented in Eurovision next year as long as it does not involve financial cost.
On Wednesday morning, Slovak news website medialne.sk revealed that RTVS had internally chosen Miro Šmajda for Baku 2012. The news were confirmed by the public broadcaster later in the afternoon, but several hours later the official statement was removed from the RTVS website. The Miro Šmajda management has also reacted on the story by describing it as a "misunderstanding", according to Eurovision website escportal.cz.
Both parties will be discussing aspects of the contract during November. Should RTVS and the Miro Šmajda management reach an agreement, the eventual confirmation of Miro as the 2012 Slovak representative will be announced in due course.
