Isn't it the other way around regarding Fuego? Helena Paparizou fans getting excited on familiar sounds. Opera is indeed often an acquired taste so naturally will go better with age. Definitely two different groups of viewers though. Question is, what is left for the kids?

Depends what do you mean by kids? :? Nothing here, but there's Norway in the other semi xscared

My prediction:
1. :il:
2. :ee:
3. :cz:
4. :bg:
5. :cy:
6. :am:
7. :mk:
8. :be:
9. :gr:
10. :az:

11. :fi: Too much fan hype, the live version well be disappointing. Rockerfeller street 2.0
12. :al:
13. :at:
14. :ch:
15. :by:
16. :ie:
17. :lt:
18. :hr:
19. :is:

After seeing the rehearsal footage, I want to adjust my predictions a bit:

1. :ee:
2. :cy: Not my cup of tea, but a dam impressive performance
3. :cz: Even if he does not dance, the performance will do very well based on charisma alone
4. :bg: Just a dam professional performance.
5. :il: I've seen enough, this is not the winner of eurovision, it will still do well though.
6. :az:
7. :lt: This staging will reach audiences and let it cruise to the final.
8. :at: The dark horse of this semi
9. :am:
10. :ie: Suprising good staging

11. :fi:
12. :gr: Will dissapoint outside the Eurovision fan-bubble
13. :ch:
14. :al:
15. :be: In such a strong semi, such weak staging choices are immediately punished.
16. :by: A wildcard in terms of staging which can go anywhere, on which I think will not deliver in this heavily competitive semi
17. :hr:
18. :mk: Once again, you screwed up the staging Macedonia
19. :is: Dead last still, but there was nothing that could have saved it.

My final list of qualifiers before tonight:

Israel
Cyprus
Bulgaria
Czech Rep.
Estonia

Less sure about these:
Greece
Azerbaijan
Belgium
Austria
Armenia

I tend to pick eight or nine out of ten, so Switzerland, Lithuania and Finland are first in line to overtake someone.

I'd consider Greece and Azerbaijan as borderline qualifiers, I could see Armenia or Croatia qualifying instead.

Locks:

Estonia
Bulgaria
Cyprus
Israel
Czech Republic

Likely:
Greece
Austria

Unsure about the remaining three. I'm going for
Azerbaijan (only because they always manage to come through)
Lithuania
And then it might be between Belgium, Croatia, Finland, Armenia

I think that Ireland, Iceland, Albania, F.Y.R.M., Switzerland, Belarus won't make it

This semi feels so hard to predict

Top 10 (no particular order)

:az: Very polished and accessible with some great staging. I'm fairly certain this won't be Azerbaijan's first miss.
:al: Best vocals of the night it seems. I'm not 100% on this one but Albania seems to have learned from their mistakes here and haven't messed up their song with awful styling this time.
:cz: Infectious song and memorable. Jury might damage it a little but the public will love it.
:il: The hype behind it will safely carry it through to the final but I have my doubts it will actually win the whole thing.
:ee: Vocals + impressive staging = final
:bg: Should be quite the jury magnet. The question is whether the public will get on board? I have my doubts but should be an easy final.
:cy: Even if juries completely turned their nose up, this is sailing to the final on public vote alone. A contender to win the semi.
:ie: The song feels almost non existent but viewers like a tale, and the gay love story thing will likely win the entry enough brownie points. This entry will probably cancel out Lithuania which seems to be gaining fan momentum, but the casual viewer I think will favour Ireland
:be: Very poorly received rehearsal but I think it will look better with a crowd and the quality of the composition will likely be able to push this one through.
:ch: Most seem to think this is a certain miss, and I don't quite understand why this entry is being slept on. It feels so relevant and fresh in the context of ESC and the music along with the singers voice makes it sound massive.

Shock misses:

:fi: Eurovision likes a hot mess from time to time, but I just feel like Finland will struggle in this tough semi. Catchy and fun song but there are other pops here that potentially can devour it whole.
:am: Albania's power vocalist singer is more impressive and will cancel this out.
:at: At first I imagined this doing very well, but now I worry that it will actually miss out on the final. The performance doesn't feel special enough. I think it will need a jury carry. The song is powerful but it's one step off from being an Australian entry. That's all good and well if you're actually Australia but Austria probably won't get that same jury support.
:gr: Beautiful song but the performance feels.. a bit vacant. Her style of singing is so low energy that I just feel like people won't get this. I hope very much that i'm wrong because I want this to reach the final, but I just fear that people won't connect. So it's got 24 points from Cyprus in the bag, but where is the other 80-ish points needed going to come from?
