On the whole I'm delighted with the result. My top 3 tonight were Hungary, Azerbaijan and Switzerland. The first two I fully expected to get through, but I'm delighted for the Swiss girl who I thought was fantastic. I was surprised how impressed I was with the Finnish guy as well who pre the contest never really registered. And No Turkey, which was deserved, I thought they may go through at the expense of something better. Proof the 50/50 system works. With Switzerand in, I now hope Slovenia an Slovakia, who don't have a great history themselves, can also buck the trend and go through.

Here in the UK, watching on BBC3, the sound was horrible on all but the last five songs. The first five especially were awful with the sound- the one microphone overpowering the rest, with every shake of the voice heard, not even Aurela Gace sounded ok. I could barely make out the music with Jestem and Haba Haba.

The songs with bad sound that qualified were the ones with the best performance from the lead singer, and the best visual aids. This helped Switzerland, Serbia and Finland. Iceland was far from perfect vocally but sounded bearable, and they had enough charm and a good draw after Croatia to help them qualify. Russia put on a good show and Alexej sounded ok, even if not heard at times (when a backing singer was supposed to take over). Eldrine actually sounded good, the lights and stuff gave a good atmosphere and the vocals were probably the best until then.

With hindsight, and discovering that Turkey and Armenia won't ALWAYS qualify, I understand the result. It's probably what I would've predicted as the result after seeing it all on screen.

Saying that, the result was also completely unfair due to all the technical problems- Germany really have to up their game for Thursday and especially Saturday! :)

I think nobody has ever swore so much during the live broadcast o_____0

Alex Sparrow with "This is Russia, whores!" or "This is Russia, f-ck!"

Someone swore in Ukrainian commentator's place or in Kyiv. "You f-ed me both!"

The German transmission was good except the all comentators lost contact for about half an hour. The need to do better....
It was quite unfair to show the worsed moment of Magdalenas Performance. That same happend last year with the Israeli.

It was a great semi-final. And I think the first 5 didn't qualify is probably because, the other songs were as good and they gave it all, so the outcome was the one we saw. I am happy about Lithuania. OGAE predicted them last in the semi. I am starting to doubt their predictions in the second semi-final.
Finland was great - I don't liked the song before, but now I am getting the hook to it. And he is a very charismatic performer. It was a lovely setting, without a doubt a great qualifier. I think Iceland deserved it as well. They were great and performed with their hearts on stage. I am sad about Norway. I thought that they were a likely qualifier from the Nordics. Switzerland was great on stage and I may not like that song, it deserved to pass. Kinda sad that Turkey didn't go through. They really were good, way better than that song from last year. Anyway, Greece was very nice. I didn't like Georgia as a qualifier, the rest were pretty good!

I hope so.
Where are your gifs??

I've voted 5 times for Poland, Norway, Croatia and Hungary. So, I feel unhappy for Poland, Norway and Croatia. Actually, Croatia's failure was obvious, but I still like the song.. Well, I expected Norway and Poland in final.. So I felt disappointed.. Btw, I am glad about Hungary's qualification though! And also, 6/10 of my favourites from SEMI 1 qualified. And, 8/10 of my predictions came true. :p

I strongly hope Germany won't organize ESC for at least 30 years! Epic fail tonight!

I must say this show was very bad.
Lame jokes, hosts trying to show off. What the hell was that?
And all the technical difficulties. I think Germany wanted to get rid of the stereotype that they're well organised.

Worst hosting since 2004.

Oh yes, I hope Germany realises that it is very bad when commentators have to use their phones to actualy be able to do their job. The German reputation for organisation took a major blow tonight.

Still then Germany failed with that and that isn't good. The feed should be good not just online but on TV as well.

I'm shocked at what I'm reading, too. Everything looked and sounded amazing! This was a great show and I can't wait til the 2nd semi-final. :) I'm only sad and really surprised about Poland. She sounded amazing live! I thought it'd be them and not Hungary, which had problem singing the Hungarian part... Armenia & Turkey not making is kind of shocking. From the qualifiers, I least expected to see Lithuania & Iceland. So happy for 3/4 of my faves that made it - Switzerland, Serbia & Georgia. Finland has also grown on me. ;)

I like the hosts, but our commentator also used mobile phone
Some people here really exaggerate. It was a nice show ;)

The UK feed was complete balls and Magda was really hard to hear. I think the early songs got screwed.

My biggest problem with the show was with that complete arse Stefan Raab. He isn't funny or entertaining and he sounds like a whiny teenager.

I watched the show from satellite and it was perfectly fine sound-wise. I thought the show was very nice and the hosts were fine, not really getting the criticism here. The commentator from the channel I was watching also definitely called in on a phone sometime around the Icelandic song.

Germany put on an awesome show! :)
