That's not really the point, but this idea that she's some sort of victim.

What I like about Polina is that she is besties with Seryozha and all Russia know that he is gay. So, I am kind of liking her cuz she is expressing indirectly her support for LGB in Russia by being Lazarev's best friend as the ultimate Russian pop diva.

Who can hate Polina? She is amazing, a class-act lady. I watched her in the Russian Voice. She is such a sweetheart.

Not sure if promoting Putin makes you a "sweetheart" but ok...

Anyways with the last news, I hope EBU also sanctions Russia. It's really ridiculous they will still be allowed to have this platform.

But what about '' lets not bring politics into Eurovision ''?
Not my fav eurovision country ( although they know how to eurovision ), I always pray for Russia not to win when they have a favourite ( mostly coz of what gay fans may face in Russia ) but how could EBU do that without breaking the '' not politics in the contest '' rule?
Its only a song contest afterall.
So get ready for the hypocritical peace song xqueenbitch

I have just one request for you. I really do not appreciate your posts in this thread, so please, do me a favor. At least do not reply directly to my posts. Thank you.

I have just one request to you: Don't tell me what I should and shouldn't do. I couldn't care less about what you appreciate or not, you're not running this forum.

You're free to put me on ignore, be my guest, but don't you ever try to tell me what I can and cannot do. I respond to what I want to. Thank you.

Unfortunately politics is part of this no matter we like it or not, as I said before we can't put the blind eye to current events and be so ignorant to think this huge platform is just an innocent "sing and dance time".

It's only natural to question why a country engaging in invasions of other participant countries should have this platform to whitewash their image and that the broadcaster that is directly in the hands of the regime should be invited to this.

Belarus was banned, Serbia was banned in the 90's as well, so it's not as if EBU is powerless here or completely apolitical.

There are certain red lines that I think also EBU can't ignore. Obviously EBU can't, and should not, act as a political moral police, but in some exceptional cases (this being one of them), they can't ignore realities.

Okay, just ban that Russian federation pleaseee so I do not read A-lister's comments here any more..FOR GODS SAKE!

If we loose Ukraine and Russia in 2022 and that will happen 99%, we will have 16 songs in the 1st semi and 18 in the 2nd one..

Or will the ESC 2022 occure in the end? :(

The EBU needs to act and ban Russia from Eurovision like they did with Yugoslavia from 1993 to 2001 and more recently with Belarus.

If Russia is smart, it withdraws from the contest on its own.

Russia is not known to back out easily (Kyiv 2017 anyone?)

If anything, they'll send the cheesiest peace song performed by someone who the audience wouldn't feel comfortable rooting against (think of Tolmachewy sisters or Yulia Samoylova)

The Russian government has been using Eurovision (among other things) for it‘s propaganda long enough now.
It’s time to act, EBU. Warmongers shouldn’t be welcome in an event that is all about peaceful competition and togetherness.

If Eurovision takes place, I hope to see Russia withdraw or being banned at this point.

You can´t expect the leader of a nuclear power to call the biggest country in Europe a "mistake" and take away their dignity and land by invading their territories and neglecting them from having their own culture, language, history will not have an effect on ESC.

I will try to not get deeper into politics now - even though the whole situation is very frightening (not really surprising [see Georgia, Moldova, Karabakh, Kazakhstan, Crimea]).

Let´s assume Eurovision will take place and Russia takes part in it - how would their participation look like?
Like @empo21 guessed, they will probably submit a very cheesy ballad whose lyrics will be all about peace, love and togetherness.

Of course, we have to distinguish the entry/entrant from their government´s actions but this time, it will be very difficult to do so - especially since the time gap will be not as big as last time + the "speech" of that leader was more aggressive - fantasizing about a new Soviet Empire because "giving territories to fake states was a mistake" which could be seen as a threat towards ALL former Soviet entries - which will include more Eurovision participants.

Also, the votes from the Russian juries had been very tactical and political in the last few years - like placing Kirkorov/Moldova first - followed by that strange Greece/Cyprus/Malta/San Marino connection whilst neglecting bookies favourites to get any points like in 2019 (Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden).

Apart from probably choosing a peace ballad and/or an artist who´s very young and comes across as sweet and innocent or an artist who´s disabled to make Europe feel sympathy/empathy (like @empo21 suggested), I also believe that the jury votes will be even MORE political/tactical and "bought" - Are Russian jury members about to give points to - let´s say - :ua: for singing in their native tongue despite their leader claiming that it´s not a real language and that they don´t have a right to exist?
Are they going to vote for the Baltics - who are condeming the current invasion. Are they going to vote for members of the European Union/the UK who will impose sanctions on Russia? - Are they going to vote for countries sending defence weapons to Ukraine?
Or ar we getting another 12 pts to Moldova, 10 pts to San Marino fiasco?

At this point - even though Eurovision should be all about music - I can´t see how the Russian entry and especially the jury votes won´t be loaded/abused for politics, imo.

I tried to connect my worries to Eurovision only and I hope no one feels offended by it - but I honestly fail to understand how a country can be part in such an event when their leader basically call former Soviet states a mistake - and we have 8 of them competing this year.
