No, but there's a lot more types of music outside the charts than in it, the charts are arguably narrow now and fewer people really have interest in them.

Yes, of course their is a lot of good and diverse music outside the charts. Do you not consider music contemporary if it doesn't chart?

The fanboys are showing themselves to be more delusional then ever with their double standards

credibility???? IT NEVER HAD IT! A Bearded lady won for god sake!
gimmicks? Sweden has done more gimmicks then Russia ever has but fanboys NEVER said anything about it once. They went on and on about how it was the whole package and song alone wasn't enough but suddenly the song is now the most important thing
dated? "Rise like a Phoenix" was dated as hell yet fanboys never mentioned it. "Only Teardrops" was a complete non-starter in terms of mainstream and being modern but fanboys didn't care about that either. Apparently it only matters for specific countries

Some of you need to just admit you NEVER want Russia to win no matter what and stop acting like its about the song or the contest's so-called credibility because it isn't. Especially when also admitting the role of the jury is to purposely mark certain countries down automatically and celebrating the rigged draw and behind the scene shenanigans

I know this will do well with eastern juries and voters, but it's just a horrible, horrible song for me. The lyrics literally make me cringe: "We will never let our loving go come undone"!!!! "My love is rising the story's unwindin', Together we'll make it 'n' reach for the stars"!!! God, give me strength! Russia ought to follow the lead of a few other countries and get themselves a Brit or an Irishman to write them some decent words in moderately poetic English.... better still, ask a Swede!

To me, this year's contribution from Russia is vastly inferior to last year's beautiful A Million Voices.

The staging is cool as can be, but the song just isn't good enough for me to warrant victory. It is a song competition, after all.

Rise Like a Phoenix was an extraordinary song sung by very impressive performer who happens to have stunning voice. Sadly Sergey's vocal skills are rather average and his song is a weak attempt to repeat Dima Bilan's 'success'.
I cannot speak for others but I would be fine with Russia winning. In fact last year I preferred Russia over Sweden. Polina Gagarina is a beautiful soul whose performance was breathtaking and very unique. This year Russian entry is a synonym of unimaginative kitsch and cliche. I dont want something like this to win Eurovision and destroy good reputation of the contest.

Maybe, just maybe, people have a different opinion from you and as such don't want Russia to win just because they dislike the song? Is it that hard to believe?

I met him yesterday! I'm not a big fan of the song. I find it mediocre and I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be with the performance. But Sergey confirmed (once again) yesterday that he's SUCH A NICE guy! Very polite and humble and extremely friendly!

This is entirely wrong:

You know what was the biggest surprise for me? To see that Armenia hasn't scored so well in charts.... Iveta even in her homeland is far behind SERHAT from San Marino! So, I am really asking myself if Iveta was first/second as some guys implied she was (e.g. Wiwibloggs).

Yeah, I think it's really odd too. Especially considering the fact her performance was breathtaking

We shouldn't reflect the charts directly to the Eurovision vote results.

A 2 year old interview with Sergey has been posted somewhere - When asked if Crimea is a part of Russian he answered "No".
I have to admit that this makes him way more likable for me (shame on me) - I read that he has been heavily criticized by Russian politics and media for that answer.

So you think because someone is in drag, this means the act automatically doesn't have any credibility? What was wrong about Conchita's performance, staging or song?
The fact that the credibility is so low should be a reason to strive for more credibility instead of just giving up on it.

Having gimmicks that accompany a good song to make it shine on stage and that actually match the song is not the same as having an awful song with OTT staging, which is meant to distract from the inferiority of the song. Armenia's staging is an example of great staging this year.

A James Bond ballad is a classic music style, that's true, but that's not the same as being dated in a negative sense. Think of Adele's Skyfall. That wasn't contemporary music either but it wasn't dated in a negative sense. It was just a classic style that is still popular.

I liked Only Teardrops but I preferred I Feed You My Love exactly because it is more modern while Only Teardrops was a Eurovision cliche.

I usually prefer songs that are modern pop unless there is an impressive exception, like 1944 this year. Rise Like a Phoenix was such an exception.

The point of the juries is to mark down joke entries and bad songs that get more support than they deserve in the televote because people think the acts are funny or because of the diaspora. Sergey should be marked down because he has an unfair advantage due to the diaspora and because people only support him because of the OTT staging instead of actually thinking the song is great. If the juries work like in Russia, they will not mark him down as they should and Russia will win. That would be Believe 2.0 and it would show that the jury system has failed.

The charts above is taken from iTunes which is easily (and often) manipulated by the record companies.

Looking at Spotify stats give a completely different picture (http://esctracker.com/spotify):

which is also a bit unfair since Spotify isn't available in all countries

Probably many people who liked the act during the show then bought the song and when listening to it without being distracted by the staging immediately regretted their purchase. :D
