If Russia wins, I need to accept that Eurovision is not the credible song contest that I would like it to be but that it's just light-hearted entertainment that people watch to see absurd gimmicks and to laugh about bad singers and weird songs. Not the best song but the most outrageous staging then determines the winner. We had already been fully there in the 2000s with all the joke entries and diaspora and block voting and I hated it. I have been watching Eurovision since I was a little kid and most of the years I didn't follow the contest that closely. Often I just watched it on TV and occasionally I looked up some information before the contest, like the odds, or I watched a few music videos before the show. I have only started to follow the contest with that much dedication last year because it was held in Austria and I kept being involved on the same level this year. If I will be awaken to the truth what Eurovision really is and that the juries didn't change anything for the better, I will still watch Eurovision but I will not take it that seriously anymore, which is a good idea anyway. I think I will just be more like a casual viewer again. If you don't take the contest seriously, there is no reason to get angry about all the things the fans talk about, like unfair voting etc. and if I just see it as a camp contest that is not about the song but about drawing attention by any means necessary to the three minutes dedicated to a specific country, Sergey can be a fine winner, of course. Just not in a credible song contest. There is only so much suspension of disbelieve that I am capable of.

So I can live with Russia winning. I will just give up any illusions that Eurovision is a credible song contest. Russia as the winner of a song contest with this song? No way! The winner of a camp and attention-whoring contest? Sure, why not? I'm a pragmatic guy and I can adapt to the circumstances. ;)

So in 2014 when bearded gay lady wons with typical james born theme it was crediable? After its victory i never heard in on radio.

So in 2014 when bearded lady wons with typical james bond theme it was crediable? Btw i never heard rise like a phoenix after victory on radio.

It was a good song that was performed flawlessly and the staging was impressive but ballads like that aren't radio-friendly. Jamala's song isn't radio-friendly either and wouldn't be played on mainstream radio in Europe but that doesn't mean it's a bad song. I said credible song contest, not radio-friendly song contest. Songs can be radio-friendly, of course, but it's not a must.

What's wrong with James Bond themes?

"credible song contest"

have we been watching the same show? Because out of the last 10 years very few songs can be seen as actual good music

I'm slowly getting used to the fact that this is most likely the winner. In the end this is just a fun competition - Yes there are better songs this year (a lot if we're being fully honest), Yes this is only going to win because of the performance, No Russia isn't the perfect paradise on earth (but which country is?) and I think the Contest does not belong there atm. You will never see me cheering for Sergey or this song and I'm not going to be super happy on Saturday - in fact I should stay away from this Forum for a few days after Saturday night
But eventually I'm mature enough to accept the fact that the majority wanted Russia to win this thing. I will swallow all my pride and congratulate those Russia-fanboys that did not act like complete arrogant jerks all the time. (Yes, there are a few and I know that I can be a jerk sometimes too)
Hell, I can't even complain - At some point there had to be a winner that I can't agree with. :geek:

From the last pages in this thread I liked these two the most! I marked some passages that I especially support with bold letters.
I have similar thoughts: We really should try to get accustomed to the fact that Russia will win and stop the "resistance" against something that we cannot change anyway. ESC is what it is and what it can be under the given circumstances, and this might not be compatible with our own wishes.
I will concentrate on the songs that I personally like and try to ignore Mr. Lazarev and his song as good as possible.

Same and I'm gonna be half drunk by the time the voting starts - perfect plan xshifty

That's why I always said I would like the contest to head that way. To have better and more contemporary music. I think there has been progress in this regard in recent years. Euphoria is still the best example.

When people say they want things more contemporary they always mean cheap chart stuff. :D

I read some comments by Ukrainian people supporting Sergey as well.
xshock
Wow I'm in Ukraine and I didn't hear anything good. Even our Eurovision's commentator said skeptically "Well we've already heard it somewhere". But to be honest that was incredible performance, that's fantastic. I even couldn't imagine something like this. It stays strong impression.

If the winner will come from Semi final 1, it should be Russia.

Really good performance, of course it would qualify for the final :) Russia is a very strong contender for the win this year. Even if my first choice goes to France, I will be happy if Sergey wins on saturday night :) Great song and great staging :)

Music doesn't have to be bad because it's in the charts. Being out of the charts doesn't guarantee quality either, btw. ;)

No, but there's a lot more types of music outside the charts than in it, the charts are arguably narrow now and fewer people really have interest in them.
