I agree about Mans. I thought his song was really nothing spectacular. Also I disliked the fact that at first he made anti-gay comments but then he suddenly changed opinion on the issue and said that 'he would totally date a guy'. IMO it was his strategy to gain more votes. Also the fact that he won only because of the juries seemed a bit dodgy to me.

I think this year's winner will be really unexpected - just like :az: back in 2011. It could be Russia but I think it will be something different (perhaps :fr: if Amir nails his performance). It also depends on the running order - if Russia is one of the first countries to perform during the final, then I don't see them taking the prize.

Mans was ONLY third in televote and this says everything... :)

As for this year's winner, I have no prejudice towards any country, so let the best win. But two comments: first, Azerbaijan was not a surprising winner for me in 2011, I really liked that song. Okey, live performance was HORRIBLE, but it was good regardless what others might say. Russia and runing-order? I think that running order does not affect Russia's chances. All this political controversy always spotlights their entry no matter how good/bad it is :) As for France, I have high hopes for this guy, and I really hope he will finish at least in top 3. The song and the lyrics (and the guy himself) are super positive and likeable, so VIVE LA FRANCE :)

In any case, I am not slowly going to bed. It was really a pleasure to talk to you here Mii11. I hope we continue soon. Talk to you later - and sweet dreams of course!

I agree that ::Az song was not bad but the live performance was disappointing. Having said that, they did achieve success - their song was played quite often in some radio stations.

BTW Sergey is quite popular in post-Soviet countries and I swear that some of his previous songs were popular in Central Europe as well. This might help him a bit.

Thanks. It was a pleasure to talk to you as well :) Have a good night.

Concerning El & Nik, we all know that the guy sang so so, but the woman... She was out of the tune, and her voice was cracking unbearably :) And Sergey... Well, surely I know he is huge in Russia, but apart from his song Biyenye serdtsa I never liked too much his songs. But I admit, I do like his entry. In the videoclip I really like his posture and body movement. And above all, I love his tattoo of angel wings... This looks great.

As for chat yesterday, yep, you were great to talk with. I had really good time here. Have a wonderful day.

Why not??? Serebro were huge two years ago in Spain and Italy... So what is funny about that? Also in Slovenia sometimes songs from "Eastern block" get played on radio. Plus, I see often comments of Polish YT viewers below Russian songs in YT...

In case of slavic countries your point of view can be right but for example in Hungary or Austria no "eastern pop or rock" is played by local radios.

Russia winning would mean that the juries would have failed to do the job they were supposed to do.
The juries were introduced in 2009 to prevent another winner as horrible as Believe and to limit the influence of neighbor and diaspora voting, which led to mentioned horrible winner.

This year, Björkman's new voting system gives more power to the neighbor and diaspora vote again, which means a big boost for countries that get many votes regardless of what they send. That most infamously applies to Russia. It's the duty of the juries to make sure something like Sergey's cheesy trash pop can't win.
If they fail to do their job, I think we would need a new voting system after this year's contest or Eurovision would be back in the campy 2000s.

The current jury system simply wouldn't make any sense, if it couldn't even prevent a winner like You Are The Only One. This song can only win, if the juries don't vote professionally. We all know that the Russian diaspora will vote for this song in huge numbers since they vote for every crap that comes out of Russia every single year, no matter what it is. The juries need to balance that. I think the Western juries are likely to do their job but we know that countries like Belarus will give top points to Russia because their vote is political every year.

I really hope the Western and Central European countries will do a proper job to stop this horrific crap from winning. What a disaster such a winner would be for Eurovision! A split vote comparable to 2011 remains a risk but objective non-Russian juries should sink this cheesefest.

Maybe I am wrong. However I am sure I had heard of him way before he was announced as Russian representative.

Some of the Eastern European artists were quite successful in Central Europe. When I was younger, I remember that t.A.T.u was played all the time by some of the local radio stations. Other Russian artists were also quite popular, but sadly I don't remember their names :)

Hungary has quite unique culture and language so probably that is why they don't import Eastern music. :)

I don't know about Austria but I think there were few Eastern songs that were popular in Germany.

In fact one of the most popular German Schlager singers, Helene Fischer, was born in Russia. You might recognise her because she announced points from Germany in 2014.

Well, I still can hear Slovakia-2010 on czech radio ( 6 y.o. song, Carl! ), so, everything can happen :D

That's because it is an amazing song xheart I still can't get over the fact that :sk: 2010 didn't get through to the final. It's probably one of the most underrated songs of all the time

Well, I agree with you. The similarity of languages can be a deciding factor, but not always. Some Romanian pop songs were world-wide hits (do you remember DRAGOSTEA something?...). But those are indeed exceptions, cuz for sure I can say that neither the Hungarian songs get any radio play in Slovenia, even though we are neighbours! But I have to admit your pop is great, and I love Ruzsa, especially her rendition of Ederlezi! Greetings to you, neighbours - in my case literally as I live only 15km from the Hungarian border :)

Your anti-Russian propaganda here is becoming tiresome. Just one remark: according to your line of argumentation, all I can gather is: we must prevent Russia from winning again. Do you really think so lowly of music experts all around the Europe? In my opinion, I believe that juries still reward quality when they see it. If you do not believe this, then I think we should cancel ESC in general, cuz it is pointless - and instead, lets have political voting without music.

If the jury was introduced to stop Russia's ambition to win ESC one day then the EBU is flawed and corrupt.

I think we would need a new voting system after this year's contest or Eurovision would be back in the campy 2000s.

Why EBU needs deform further the cuerrent voting system? I think that scratch in the plastic surgeries

I don't think so!! Mostly of the Western & Central European jury will vote for Sergey. ofc will be some countries that they won't do due obvious reasons, but some like Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Belgium will do because he he is well know here!

He is not well known in the Netherlands at all, never heard of him before Eurovision. I don't think this is a song that would do good in the Dutch charts for example, maybe 10 years ago. So i'm really curious if people are going to vote for this, for me it would be a surprise if they do.

I can assure you that he is not known here in Italy.

Yes, you are right - Dragostea and Edward Maya with Stereo Love were famous in Hungary, but these are exceptions.
Last summer we visited Slovenia. Before that I had thought that the hungarian Őrség - close to Slovenian border - was the most beautiful part of that region but I have to admit that Goričko is more beautiful. :) There are some nice towns in Eastern Slovenia also. For example Murska Sobota (Muraszombat) or with some hungarian roots, Lendava (Lendva).

Oh my God, you were in my hometown that I live next by! And you know all the names! Yes, yes. In the past this region was a part of the Hungarian kingdom! And people here used to speak Hungarian as their second foreign language! Well, now it is almost 100 years since we joined to Slovenia/back then to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, but no one can deny we had a common history that goes back almost one millenium! We picked a lot of Hungarian habits, and learnt some of the best tricks of the Hungarian cuisine, and learnt the best dances from Hungarians... Igen, igen :) I used to work in tourism, and I have to say that Hungarians were the most educated and the most polite tourists I have had in my career. Very intelligent and very knowable :) I was really shocked how thorough your knowledge of your history is!!! And of course, since we lived together for 1000 years there are also traces of the Hungarian language in my local dialect - because of which other Slovenes make fun of us and tell us that we actually speak Hungarian, though we do not. In fact, linguists have showed/proved that there are at least 500 loanwords in Hungarian that were taken over by HUngarians from a Slavic dialect that must have closely resembled the dialect of my home region!!! And yes, there is still a very proud Hungarian minority that is deeply rooted in the local life as well as traditions. Basically, in my opinion, even though there is a language barrier between us today, and a state border, people from my region still have more in common with Hungarians than with other Slovenians :) And thanks to the Hungarian rule, our region was always very tolerant of different cultures and religions - though it is a tiny region, we have a more diverse population than the rest of Slovenia together! Okey, I know I've got too excited now, but I am really flattered now what you've said about Goričko - I actually live here hahaha.

Oh my god, Serebro has a new song Otpusti menya. Sounds really nice :) I am really glad the girls returned to their original sound/style. I didn't like that provocative style they developed over the last 4 years or so... Pitty only that Elena left, though her solo career seems to taking off slowly. Elena is super charizmatic... In any case, their Dishi sa mnoy is still their best song ever. Lyrics are simply to die for, though also Pereputala is sublime :)
