First I lose a major top favorite through a terrible revamp (San Marino) and now I lose another top favorite. And I had so few favorites to begin with.
Couldn't they have given Romania a couple of weeks extension for the contest at least? It's not fair to the artist, it's not fair to the Romanian public and it's not fair to the rest of us who were fans of this entry.

Nooo... this is terrible I get that the EBU is within its rights to punish the broadcaster for overdue debts, but coming three weeks before the contest, this just seems unnecessarily cruel to Ovidiu and his fans. He would have put a lot of effort into this - recordings, staging preparations, tours at the pre-parties - and is now being punished for the actions of a TV station he has very little to do with. His song might not have been the most popular, but I personally was a big fan, and it brought something else to the contest. Plus it's going to seem very unprofessional from the side of the EBU, having already published all the promotional materials and the CD. Why couldn't they provide the 'pay us or you're out' ultimatum after the 2016 contest, which would have likely had the same effect but none of the stupid side effects? Bleh. Hoping this is overturned or fixed in the next few days, but it doesn't seem likely.

It's a shame Romania is out, I'm more sad for the singer than the song because it's not fair to him. But hopefully Romania will be back again next year, they're one of my favourite countries in esc so fingers crossed.

One would think this is a decision that has been taken too close into the competition. It should've been taken after he participated or before he was even selected. TVR spent money on a national final all for nothing! A bit unprofessional by EBU but hey what can you expect from them?!

Yeah, I don't feel bad for the channel. I do feel bad for Ovidiu.
Shame on EBU. Should've either done this a couple months ago, after ESC, or let Ovidiu participate this year.

Well, I think already in 2012 we could have read the news "Romania might withdraw", "Financial situation is bad" and so on.
I feel sorry for the singer, it seems he was the last one who got the information. The guy was obviously only the object in the hands of the Romanian broadcaster.
The EBU gave them a lot of time.
Hopefully when they return this guy will be chosen internally as a representative, it would be fair.
Romania would have qualified anyway so this creates a nice space for somebody else.
It's always a shock for some people when countries that qualify always or often withdraw. See, Bosnia was out for 3 years and nobody was hurt so it's ok for Romania too I guess. But the way they withdrew (or were withdrawn) was not nice.

Can not describe my feelings... It was and still is my 9th place, I love that wonderful, strong song. That is very unfair for him, poor Ovidiu...

I wasn´t really a fan of Romanian entry this year, but I feel that the only form of compensation for Ovidiu would be to select him internally next year, or the year when they return. (and give him a more competitive song in the process).

I don't get it. We had a NF, we selected an artist. Ovidiu spent a lot of money (yes, TVR doesn't give shit, usually the artists are promoting themselves with their own money) and...now
I hope another channel will get the EBU membership or something, like it happened with Hungary or Greece. It's probably too late this year....but TVR is too shitty to take care of Eurovision ever again.
