Would Romania really be withdrawing at such a late stage, though? With everything having moved along as far as it has - running orders, the official CD, promotional materials, presumably a lot more stuff behind the scenes - it'd probably be easier at this point for the EBU if they just kept things going as-is for the 2016 contest and then focused on grilling them for the money afterwards. When was the last time a song was withdrawn within a month of the contest?

Let's be more clear though, TVR will not withdraw, but is possible to be suspended from EBU and to loose the rights to participate at Eurovision and all other EBU services.

Some people say that TVR published those news that they might be suspended by the EBU in order to pressure the Romanian government to help them pay the fees. I think this is likely, the EBU surely won't disqualify Romania at this stage. However, they might suspend them from the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

Yes, it is a fact. The piece of news has been published on the official websites. That means this Eurovision will have 42 participants instead of 43. What I don't understand is why they've made that decision so late.

No Money, No Party... Sorry for romanians. At least Romania still has the 'always qualifier' status. This year it was not 100% because of Ovidiu's song and lack of Moldova in the semi.

Serbia & Montenegro in 2006 was allowed to vote because they had already paid the fee, something that I don't think that Romania this year has done, considering their huge debt to EBU, so I doubt they will be allowed to vote.

The song is OK, though Romania is one of the most successful countries in the whole contest. It is actually sad to see them out. But according to the news I read, they won't be able to come back as their membership is also withdrawn. If that's the case, sorry for Romania.

Oh Jesus Christ, taking away TVR’s EBU membership was deserved, but disqualifying Ovidiu from Eurovision at this late point is such a dick move from the EBU’s side. I’m angry. Not only because we’re losing a great song in this contest, but also because it’s really unfair towards everyone involved in preparing Romania’s participation in Eurovision this year.

What’s wrong with kicking them from the EBU and still keeping their ESC participation secured until May?
