This was pretty much the only entry I wholeheartedly stood behind this year. I was just infatuated with the artistry from the first time I saw his performance. I had lost a bit of interest in Eurovision and didn’t even watch it last year, but this got me hyped enough to invest my time in it again. Now I’m back to not really caring lol.

This is musically, visually and conceptually way ahead of almost anything we’ve had in ESC before. Only Iceland this year comes close, but at the end of the day they are putting on an act and they’re very ironic about it. Conan is just being his total true self, which makes it even more painful to accept his non-qualification. What a ridiculously unfair result for him. I thought Europe would be ready for this considering who won the contest the last three years. Oh well, at least I got to discover this wonderful artist that I otherwise wouldn’t. Excited to see what’s next for him.

As for the rest of the show, I can now watch the final and have a little laugh at everything like most people do when watching ESC. I have no one to be nervous for, so that’s a relief at least lol.

I can feel with you. Someone here said that Conan was ahead of the time. And that seems to be true. I loved the song, the staging and the perfromance. And it hurts to see bland songs at the final and not a song like this. But unfortunately that's what ESC is all about. Sometimes you lose your faves in the semi. I will support Iceland mostly now. And hope they will be in the top 10.

Just as it happened with Iceland, this left me unimpressed. And the perfomance in the NF is better than what we saw last night by a landslide. Nothing worked there and the chemistry between Conan and his dancer simply disappeared. It didn't qualify and I believe this ended somewhere at the bottom. The mask was atrocious, I simply found it horrible. It could have been something good if basically most of what we watched was different.

So, I was one of the fans of the song when it first got released.
Then we had a rehearsal period with lots of ups and downs. I really liked his performance from the jury show and put him back in my qualifiers list. I even thought for a second he might scrape into top 10 if he does very well in the final.

However, watching his performance last night, I really could see in his eyes that he was overwhelmed with the great audience cheering in front of him, he was carried away with the excitement and "over-did" himself with some of his vocals and dance movements. He looked somewhat too ambitious. Not even mentioning "the dress" and dark lighting.
It looked as an obvious non-qualifier with all these combined.

I'm not that pissed, tho. Instead of borderline qualifying, getting 20-26th place in the final and being forever forgotten, perhaps it's better to be the victim and always be remembered as one of the biggest robberies of the history (winking at you, 2017 and 2016 *muah*)

I am so happy that this stayed in the semi! I just can't stand this song and for me it's one of the worst songs ever participated in the contest.

I like him better now because of his support for Portugal.

The public proved to be far more progressive and open-minded than the juries so I wouldn't be surprised if the juries ruined his chances, not that I would understand it though considering they should be "experts"... but on the other hand the song is not that accessible so maybe it failed with the public too... we will have to see when the full results get presented.

So, I am in mourning, grief-stricken and teary-eyed when I comment in my WhatsApp and Telegram about Portugal losing their ticket to the final.

And I try to come to terms with the facts.

I rewatched the national final and I rewatched the Semifinal performance. The latter was still glorious - to me. But, yet not quite there where the FdC Performance was.


Conan looked very angry in the Semifinal. I said before, that putting on an angry face puts of the viewers in droves. Say hi to Mei Finegold! That already worries me for Mahmoud and his boy gang for Saturday.

Why did he look so angry? Does anger convey "saudade"? I don't think so.

He did not look angry at FdC. He came across quirky.

Also these dresses were not favorable. We all loved the fluffs and fringes of the white costumes at FdC oh so much. It added a light touch which elevated the stage act. Also these scissor hands gave me life.

The green silk looked expensive but not extra.

The red lighting à la Hatari did not help to stand out. It gave me darkroom vibes, which worked for Iceland, not for Portugal.

Also the camera angles were not on point. The death drop was out of focus.

Many people thought so ... including me. And look where we are now. So many surprises, good ones and bad ones. People think that Netherlands might make it on Saturday, but we might be surprised again.
