Re: PORTUGAL 2019

I was honestly just expecting another boring FdC but I must admit the quality rose tremendously.
I kinda like Conan's song, which is weird because I usually just hate these type of songs but this one... I don't know why, is it because of the lyrics? xD

My favourite parts:
E vou estragar o telemóvel, o "telele"

Quero viver e escangalhar o telemóvel

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Y'all (aka two of you) wanted to know my opinion on Conan Osiris' song? Well....... I'm absolutely stunned by it. I need to hear the other songs ASAP but this one, wow. It's going to be hard to top. It's a fascinating composition. When I got the @s here yesterday, I listened to it without headphones on but that didn't do it full justice. Listening to it now and it's an eargasm. I can't understand how it manages to sound so rich and full because instrumentally speaking there's a sparseness to it, but everything is so forward and stunning. His vocals are hypnotic. So much goes on in those three minutes that it seems longer. I really love it.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

The level of artistry in this NF is quite astonishing. Other selections could only dream. At the same time though, whilst I appreciated almost everything here, only one song truly titillated me on the first listen. I liked the songs from Madrepaz and Ela Limão (not far away at all from stuff I'd listen to outside of ESC) but I wasn't like "wow" or moved. For me Telemóveis is the clear stand out. I'm shocked by how good it is actually. A lot of the rest of these songs sound like growers to me, which is not really the way to do this Eurovision thang, cause we saw what happened last year to your beautiful entry. Conan has got something that could hook people from the very first listen, so I think he's the clear choice to make. There is some risk involved of course but it could pay off big time. Shake Eurovision up!

Love

Conan Osíris - Telemóveis Strong potential to be my number 1 of the year if you pick him.

Like

Madrepaz - Mundo A Mudar Predictably I really like this one. For some reason parts of it remind me of the theme to Old Bear (brownie points to anyone who ever watched this darling little show).
Ela Limão - Mais Brilhante Que Mil Sóis I'm always up for a bit of psych.. well, whatever! Psych-pop or rock, I'll take it.
Marlon - O Jantar Charming production and hard for me to dislike.
Mila Dores - Debaixo Do Luar Bit of a slow-burner but it's lovely.
João Campos - É O Que É Very sweet and with a powerful climax. I wasn't sure at first (actually went back to this one three times) but I do like it. One to watch out for I think when performed live. Could be a big threat for the crown.
Ana Cláudia - Inércia Strange piece of music. It feels like multiple songs thrown together. It's intriguing but I'm unsure if it works. Weirdest song in the selection. Potentially could be a big grower for me if I gave it a few more listens. At the moment I'm trying to work it out cause I am confusion.

Enjoyed but need some more time with

Matay - Perfeito Beautiful composition but so extravagantly OTT and dangerously close to being hammy that I think I need to put myself in a different frame of mind first before trying to decide how much I actually like this. I think the song is possibly too much. The fluttering harp takes it into schmaltzy territory. This would probably be the safest choice here and has a good chance of winning this selection I imagine.
Surma - Pugna Would be interesting to have a song with such a lo-fi production at Eurovision, but unsure I care enough about the composition, and I'm often all over this kind of stuff outside of ESC. Will be interesting to see how she'll tackle this one live anyway, and how the audience will react.
Soraia Tavares - O Meu Sonho Strange. I don't know what to think about this. It's extremely stripped back.
Mariana Bragada - Mar Doce Nice. I appreciate it but I can't say I'm really being grabbed at this point. Maybe live it will sway me?
Filipe Keil - Hoje Of the three or so poppier songs in this selection, this is the one I find tolerable. Chorus is quite good.

No feelings for either way

NBC - Igual a ti Too run-of-the-mill and floaty for my tastes.
Dan Riverman - Lava Nice verses but the chorus ruins it. Too plain.

Don't like

Lara Laquiz - O Lugar Remove the "Oooh oooh" hook and actually it's a fine composition, but I was annoyed by the time this one finished, which is a shame cause I think the composition is promising.
Calema - A Dois I'm not opposed to you sending pop but this is weak sauce and so generic. You can do better.

So Conan and his hoop earrings at Eurovision please or I will sue you. I think the selection this year is good but not "wow" which actually in hindsight has left me feeling a bit disappointed. I mean, if you had to place me in a room playing songs from this NF for 24 hours vs [insert name of other random ESC NF here], I'd obviously pick this one, but nothing really moves me or touches my heart this year (at this point). Never mind though cause still some very nice songs on offer, even if I fear you'd struggle with most of them at Eurovision. Pick Conan.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Listened to the whole songs again and really like some very much. Like almost everyone here, my favorite song is from Conan Osíris, it's absolutely Wonderful. xrose Everytime you listen to it, you seem to find something else that was unnoticed so far. Absolutely brilliant. The other songs I also liked yesterday, didn't change:

NBC - Igual a ti
Dan Riverman - Lava
Soraia Tavares - O Meu Sonho
Mila Dores - Debaixo Do Luar
Matay - Perfeito

I can't be the only one who sees similarities (um, in style) to Surma and Mick Pedaja, right?

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Just wanted to add: I'd be VERY disappointed and frustrated, if Conan Osíris didn't win. This song is everything that ESC needs. Oh PLEASE let it win! This song could be easily in my top 3 of ESC 2019.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Portugal climbed to #16 in the odds already, from around #40 yesterday! And the odds shortened from 100 to 21.
"Telemóveis" is also trending on youtube and has already hit 100k views. The reception here in Portugal has been somewhat similar to the reaction for "Amar pelos dois" when it was first performed on the first semi-final, but there doesn't seem to be nearly as many negative comments as there were back then.

I really want it to win, it would be somehing completely different to anything Portugal sent before, and honestly completely different to anything on Eurovision before. It would join the ranks of "Love injected" or "I feed you my love" in the list of high quality left field entries, and that is something I never thought I could say about my country at Eurovision! However, I'm gonna be cautiously optimistic because I think Conan will have a hard time winning in Portugal due to the juries. I wish the televoting points were given weigthed to the percentages the songs got.

My Ranking

01. Calema – “A Dois” 9/10
02. Filipe Keil – “Hoje” 6/10
03. João Campos – “É o que é” 6/10
04. Conan Osíris – “Telemóveis” 5/10
05. Surma – “Pugna” 5/10
06. NBC – “Igual a ti” 5/10
07. Matay – “Perfeito” 3/10
08. Dan Riverman – “Lava” 3/10
09. Ana Cláudia – “Inércia” 2/10
10. Soraia Tavares- “O meu sonho” 2/10
11. Mila Dores – “Debaixo do Luar” 2/10
12. Madrepaz – “Mundo a Mudar” 2/10
13. Marlon – “O Jantar” 1/10
14. Lara Laquiz – “O Lugar” 1/10
15. Mariana Bragada – “Mar Doce” 0/10
16. Ela Limão – “Mais brilhante que mil sóis” 0/10

This NF is really not my cup of tea, Calema has the only Song i find Amazing. There some songs they are interesting, but most of the songs are really boring and old fashioned. I miss here some modern uptempo Songs.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

#14 on oddschecker :p
And #7 on youtube trends... the live performance will be crucial to know if all this hype is justified

I’m sure he won’t disappoint. With a good stanging I actually think we can go Top 5.
Hopefully the jury and televot at FdC will get it! Crossing fingers !!

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

I believe Conan will be able to get high points on the jury (Maybe 8 at least in the final, last year's jury was diversified ) Conan has a lot of quality, most music experts have put Conan's Album as one of the best of the year (blitz, a magazine of Portuguese music, put his album in 2, I think) ... I hope of course to know the names of the jury, but do not believe Julio Isidro go vote for it  .... On the contrary I think that Calema will have no chance with Jury (maybe the last places of the jury)

Conan will take a lot of people to Watch the Festival for the first time (at least my cousin )

I've listened 4 times to Conan's song, and I still don't know how I feel. I want to like it more than I do, but yet I keep going back to it. It's a song that really makes me think. I'm not sure how well it would do at ESC, and comparisons to APD are kind of ridiculous, but ESC could really use a song like this. I'll have my eye on this one, since I'm assuming he's going to landslide FdC.
