Re: PORTUGAL 2019
Quick thoughts on the songs:
"A Dois" Calema
I like the verses in this, but the chorus is extremly generic. Sounds like a winning song in an Idol-show or something.
"Telemoveis" Conan Osíris
Wow, this was different. I like the calm verses, very mysterious and his voice puts one to a trance. But it gets almost too much with the other melodies going around it. But I like it's originality.
"Inércia" Ana Cláudia
This just pass me by, I can't even focus on anything. Nope, doesn't work at all.
"O Meu Sonho" Soraia Tavares
This has potential. Soraia has a very interesting voice and the song feels like it is a mixture of Fado and 90s pop and it sorta works. But I have a hard time seeing this qualify in Eurovision. But it is the best so far for me.
"Lava" Dan Riverman
Gosh this song is so similar to some rock song, but I can't come up with which. Though it lacks a lot here to work. He has a nice voice to listen to, but I will never remember this. It feels too old-fashioned as well.
"Igual A Ti" NBC
Nice song, also reminds me of something. Pretty powerful chorus that could be very good live. But I doubt that it will win FdC though.
"O Jantar" Marlon
Very 70s, in a good way. But I don't know, it just lacks something here. But I do enjoy it.
"Debaixo Do Luar" Mila Dores
Very Norah Jones kind of a song, pretty nice, but lacks a proper chorus. So no, it won't work.
"Pugna" Surma
Wow, this I didn't expect from this NF. Very similar to Fever Rey, and I do like it. I am very curious on how this will be live, but it might be a special moment in this contest. The melody is beautiful, makes me go on a journey within me. Very interesting.
"Mar Doce" Mariana Bragada
Beautiful voice, and the song is pretty nice too. Feels portuguese but also pretty oriental. This should do well I think in FdC, but not so sure on ESC though...
"Perfeito" Matay
No, this is not my kind of music. It doesn't work for me at all. Just boring and old-fashioned.
"Hoje" Filipe Keil
NICE! Portuguese R'n'B-pop that feels real. God I love this language! I really like this and can see this do well in FdC and wouldn't mind it in ESC either. Lovely song.
"Mais Brilhante que Mil Sois" Ela Limao
Very cute song, with a lovely 60s feeling to it. Really sweet.
"Mundo A Mudar" Madrepaz
It is a lot of 60s and 70s references that I so recognize in a lot of songs, but I can't remember where it is from. In this one as well, but I don't mind it. Though is this song a little too flat for me, needs it go a little deeper to work. But it is fine.
"O Lugar" Lara Laquiz
Here I love the verses, but once again there is a chorus that doesn't fully convince me. I need something special or at least catchy to work for me. This one just pass me by, too bad.
"É O Que É" Joao Campos
Not bad, his voice is terrific and fits the song perfectly. But maybe it doesn't fully work for me. But it's nice.
Portugal is as always nowadays a country that brings passion, quality and real stuff to the NF-season, and it is no different this year. Maybe it is a slightly weaker NF than usual, but there are some interesting stuff in here that could bloom out on stage. Good luck to one of my favorite countries in the world!
