Re: PORTUGAL 2019

All the songs are too laid back for my sense. A better versatile mixture would have been welcome. If I had to choose, it would be Conan, NBC or Matay for now, but I have to listen again to the songs …

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Quick thoughts on the songs:

"A Dois" Calema
I like the verses in this, but the chorus is extremly generic. Sounds like a winning song in an Idol-show or something.

"Telemoveis" Conan Osíris
Wow, this was different. I like the calm verses, very mysterious and his voice puts one to a trance. But it gets almost too much with the other melodies going around it. But I like it's originality.

"Inércia" Ana Cláudia
This just pass me by, I can't even focus on anything. Nope, doesn't work at all.

"O Meu Sonho" Soraia Tavares
This has potential. Soraia has a very interesting voice and the song feels like it is a mixture of Fado and 90s pop and it sorta works. But I have a hard time seeing this qualify in Eurovision. But it is the best so far for me.

"Lava" Dan Riverman
Gosh this song is so similar to some rock song, but I can't come up with which. Though it lacks a lot here to work. He has a nice voice to listen to, but I will never remember this. It feels too old-fashioned as well.

"Igual A Ti" NBC
Nice song, also reminds me of something. Pretty powerful chorus that could be very good live. But I doubt that it will win FdC though.

"O Jantar" Marlon
Very 70s, in a good way. But I don't know, it just lacks something here. But I do enjoy it.

"Debaixo Do Luar" Mila Dores
Very Norah Jones kind of a song, pretty nice, but lacks a proper chorus. So no, it won't work.

"Pugna" Surma
Wow, this I didn't expect from this NF. Very similar to Fever Rey, and I do like it. I am very curious on how this will be live, but it might be a special moment in this contest. The melody is beautiful, makes me go on a journey within me. Very interesting.

"Mar Doce" Mariana Bragada
Beautiful voice, and the song is pretty nice too. Feels portuguese but also pretty oriental. This should do well I think in FdC, but not so sure on ESC though...

"Perfeito" Matay
No, this is not my kind of music. It doesn't work for me at all. Just boring and old-fashioned.

"Hoje" Filipe Keil
NICE! Portuguese R'n'B-pop that feels real. God I love this language! I really like this and can see this do well in FdC and wouldn't mind it in ESC either. Lovely song. :D

"Mais Brilhante que Mil Sois" Ela Limao
Very cute song, with a lovely 60s feeling to it. Really sweet. :D

"Mundo A Mudar" Madrepaz
It is a lot of 60s and 70s references that I so recognize in a lot of songs, but I can't remember where it is from. In this one as well, but I don't mind it. Though is this song a little too flat for me, needs it go a little deeper to work. But it is fine.

"O Lugar" Lara Laquiz
Here I love the verses, but once again there is a chorus that doesn't fully convince me. I need something special or at least catchy to work for me. This one just pass me by, too bad.

"É O Que É" Joao Campos
Not bad, his voice is terrific and fits the song perfectly. But maybe it doesn't fully work for me. But it's nice.

Portugal is as always nowadays a country that brings passion, quality and real stuff to the NF-season, and it is no different this year. Maybe it is a slightly weaker NF than usual, but there are some interesting stuff in here that could bloom out on stage. Good luck to one of my favorite countries in the world! xrose

The quality of the songs is better than previous years. That’s a fact!

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

I had so high expectations for Conan Osiris - What a disappointment. It's just odd and edgy, but it sounds too chaotic to produce any impact on me. I hate when a song sounds if a couple of different people just threw in random ideas.
I could live with Calama, Lara Laquiz or Madrepaz, but I doubt any of these (if chosen, which I doubt) would end in my top 10 though.
For the rest - I felt as if Dementors had struck me.

I really enjoyed "Perfeito", I think it has beautiful lyrics and a nice melody. His live performance can really take this to another level. Let's wait and see.

Conan's song is also very nice and different. I think this has potential to do well in Eurovision. It's not something I'd listen to everyday but I appreciate what it brings to the table.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Now in relation to the songs, I think a year a little more diversified compared to the other years .... some very interesting songs :) (I do not think it's better in relation to 2018 or 2017 .. I think more diversified)

With 2 or 3 audition / MY TOP 16 (so far) :D

1-Conan Osiris - Telemoveis
2-Lara Laquiz - O Lugar
3-Surma - Pugna
4-Calema - A dois
5-Mila Dores - Debaixo
6-NBC - Igual a ti
7--Filipe Keil - Hoje
8--Soraia Tavares - O Meu Sonho
9--Madrepaz - Mundo A Mudar
10-Matay - Perfeito
11-Joao Campos - E O Que E
12-Mariana Bragada - Mar Doce
13-Ela Limao - Mais Brilhante Que Mil Sois
14-Marlon - O Jantar
15-Dan Riverman - Lava
16-Ana Claudia - Inercia

Conan has a very good song, I am clearly #teamConan this year,I'm hardly going to vote for someone else, he'll have all the votes in my house :D (in principle) ... I was already a fan of him, and this music is very good.I also like Surma, quite curious to know how it will be live.

@RainyWoods and @DenizESC already heard a conan song, a party plug in the summer (I do not know if they remember) :D

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Okay, after the first listen: The quality is pretty good, I think overall it's the best FdC of the last few years. I'm glad that there were more daring and original entries this year and that not as many people followed Salvador's formula like in 2018.

Conan Osiris is clearly the standout one. I am very surprised, I thought I would hate his entry, but the opposite happened. It's so different and original, I think it's our best shot at a top 10 at Eurovision. It's the song and performer that has that something different, that quirkiness that is needed to truly standout on a field of 26 songs.
It would either be a huge flop or a huge success, and staging would be very important, but I'm sure he could pull it off as stage presence is something that he pretty much has.

He is already trending on Twitter and getting a lot of views on Youtube...his main problem is going to be our conservative jury. I just want someone to film Júlio Isidro's face during his performance, he's gonna be seething
However the final juries have been a bit better the last few years and have voted pretty well, so I think that they will rate him fairly if his performance is good. The lyrics will also be an obstacle on the juries front. Yes it's a metaphor, but they are undeniably silly.

Then I also like Calema. The song is pretty different from FdC's standard and would have a fair shot at making the final. The chorus is a bit generic though.
Matay's ballad is a safer choice, but if he sells it well live it can also stand out. "O lugar" by Lara Laquiz, "Igual" by NBC, "É o que é" by João Campos are also pretty good.

I personally really enjoy Surma's song, it's very true to her style and very different. But I think it will be a car crash live unfortunately.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

this is one of my favourite selections this year, totally unlike any other NF or FdC for that matter - Conan Osiris, Ana Claudia, Mariana Bragada, Madrepaz, NBC and Ela Limao would all rank extremely high for me, but I think Conan is The One.

And these are the new graphics for 2019. RTP is stepping up in every front.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

easily the best FdC in years and years. after last year's general "we need a new salvador" awkwardness, RTP has finally found the middle ground of keeping their portuguese branding while also not sounding like the entries were composed prior to the invention of the press.

i like quite a few entries but conan absolutely needs to win. telemóveis would be the best portuguese entry ever. if even one of the others i like wins over him i will be devastated.

My own post is the proof that you should never judge a song too quickly. After all the positive feedback here I gave it a second listening. What I wrote was true for the first 45 seconds but the longer the song goes on the more it all merges together. It is in fact the most interesting song in the selection and I'm curious what will happen after a few more listenings.

Re: PORTUGAL 2019

Approximate FdC entry Ranking

1. Conan Osiris (this one improves significantly at every listen, just give it a few more listens if you aren't convinced yet.)
2. Others (actually, these too are quite decent)
3. Matay (...except for this one. pretentious faux disney piano ballad HELL NO.)

Sure, but the juries for the final have been very different. I think it can do well enough with the juries to win, it will come down to the performance.
