Question to all our Portuguese members:
What result(s) would be considered "acceptable" by the Portuguese public and media?
I feel like the expectations are reeaaaaaaaally damn high (maybe too high?). From the outside it looks similar to the situation back in 2008.

1. Qualification to the final
2. Top 10

Anything below that will be considered a flop

Hmm I don't know. I would say that in Portugal 75% of the people like the song, and 25% find it boring and think it's chanceless.

I think top 10 or top 15 in the final would be considered acceptable by people, maybe? I think a NQ or a bottom 6 finish in the final would have a pretty bad reaction though.

I honestly think we deserve to be in the top 10 at least, or top 5. I mantain hope for a suprise win (hope never dies!) but after so many years missing a final I will already be very happy with a presence in the saturday night!

But as I said before we will only have a clear picture of Portugal's chances after tuesday, if we qualify. This is the type of staging that relies a lot in camerawork, and that will be the first time people will be able to actually see Salvador perform in Kyiv, so we can't conclude a lot with the rehearsals this week. The reaction after the semi-finals have been very telling in the last few years, so if we do qualify the buzz the song gets in the internet after the semi-final will reveal our chances. And the running order we would get by the producers too, obviously.

Atm we're very close to :se: in the odds. Will we be able to take the 3rd place by the time of the second rehearsals? xthink

Great performance in that spanish show btw xheat

Yep, Portugal is getting closer and closer to Sweden. I hope we do pass them, I just can't see Sweden anywhere near the win with that song, and I think it it wasn't for their recent history in the contest they would be 4 or 5 places lower in the ranking already.

I don't see Sweden as a winner either, but it's bound to be in top 5. Is a very well produced song with an even more polished performance, will appeal a lot to the juries and surely to the televote as well. If the other favorites disappoint in either televote or jury vote, it could emerge as the winner but it's an unlikely scenario atm

Hands down, I don't think that you have to worry about not qualifying or finishing bottom 6 in the final. I have to admit that the song is actually hard to "rate" .... I could see it making the top 10 but also finishing somewhere between 10th and 20th. Hoping for the best for you guys - We don't already want to lose you yet again

Thank you :p
I'm actually confident in a good result this year and that's a thing that literally as never happened to me. I think top 15 is a lock, top 10 seems likely but we'll see...

Oh don't worry, bar a nul points finish in the semi-final I don't think you will lose us! RTP already started studying the format for FdC 2018 and already started inviting composers too! The enthusiasm by the people might be affected by a bad result, but RTP has already said Eurovision will be one of their main priorities now!

I'm not going to be modest about it: i'll be really really sad if we don't get our best result ever. And that means a top5 final ranking.
That's how much i love the song.

But i'm also realistic, so let's see if we qualify first. I'm aware all this massive built up can blow up in my face.

Portugal is now 3rd in the odds, shortening across the board and almost catching Bulgaria!

His performance in Spain was something for ages. The guy is a tour de force like we've never seen in this contest. Beautiful, touching, heartbreaking. GO SALVADOR!!

Many people seem to be worried by the fact that he will be performing his song from the central platform, so the audience could ruin the magic.

People in the arena? Do you think they're gonna move the whole thing to the big stage? xcry1

I don't know, but I do remember Anouk's performance in 2013, which was presented in a similar way as Portugal this year and, in the end, the people in the arena celebrating, cheering, waving flags, etc... kinda ruined the intimate atmosphere this song needed.

So I think it would be clever to move it to the big stage, but they are not probably going to change it at this point.

Yeah, it has always been a risk.
