So glad that despite Salvador not attending those media- and pressure- infested parties, there is still footage of live renditions for us and prospective fans to adore with. I kinda hope they do the acoustic version in May- the less musical instrumentals, the better he sounds. It also gives a much more vintage and relevant feel to the song. With the guitar performed by Luisa Sobral, it feels a lot more intimate. Could that be Luisa's idea of keeping Salvador in the centre of attention, whilst giving listeners and readers a better idea of the message of the song?

I just... space out whenever I hear this. This entry is indescribably romantic, dreamy, and most of all there's so much sincerity in it which is not easy to come across in music these days. But it's not even the song or Salvador that amazes me the most. It took me a little while to truly get into the song if I'm honest. What I love about this is the reaction. I was filled with so much emotion when I read comments from people when Salvador won. It's like it's brought out everybody's inner poet and I haven't really seen anything like that before. It's a good reminder how timeless music can be, how much it can transcend, invoke in us, inspire, and what we're really here for in the end. I only have pure love for Portugal this year for so many reasons.

So true - my enjoyment of the song was certainly enhanced by reading RainyWoods's comments on jazz- it is like tasting ice-cream, but then understanding the different flavours and where they came from, how it came to be.

Wiwiblogs just released an interview of Salvador Sobral: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QatReA_BdeE

Gotta admit the humour behind his ending the brief impromptu song! It definitely shows how nonchalantly he is taking the interview :)

Since the interview mentioned it, I took it upon myself to see how his song is doing on Itunes and Spotify:
According to http://kworb.net/itunes/artist/salvadorsobral.html, Salvador is #12 in Itunes and #123 in Spotify in Portugal. He is currently #1 on the Portugal Viral Hits, as well as #26 on the Span Viral Hits

Eurovision tv finally has the singer profile up! http://www.eurovision.tv/page/history/year/participant-profile/?song=34593

His picture is worthy of a fan poster!

I also find his answers to the questions just disarmingly charming

"Salvador Sobral studied Psychology but his overwhelming passion for music took over and he has proved to be one of the great promises in the Portuguese and Spanish music scene. While he lived in the US and in Barcelona, where he studied at the prestigious school Taller de Musics, he carried out several musical projects: he composed for himself but at the same time he created audacious performances inspired by Chet Baker, took in bossa-nova and lent his songs the sweet sonorities of Latin America.

His voice, always in the right place and over which he has full, flawless control, and the magnetism with which he wins people over when he’s on stage, have awarded him the best reviews from the specialised press, colleagues and, most importantly, from the ultimate judge – the public. Excuse Me (2016), his debut album, was a musical co-production by Júlio Resende, Leonardo Aldrey and Salvador himself.
Things you should know about Salvador Sobral
What are the three most interesting aspects about your entry?
Simplicity, emotion and spontaneity.
What are the three most impressive facts about you?
Being truth, genuine and emotional.
Do you have a (lucky) routine before you go on stage?
Nope, I just prepare to sing with all my heart.
Why is the Eurovision Song Contest important for you?
It can be good for my career, for people outside of Portugal to know and recognise my work.

About the composer

Born in Lisbon 29 years ago, Luísa Sobral is among the most important songwriters and singers of the new generation of Portuguese musicians and she is also one of those rare cases of “love at first song”. She presented herself to the public in 2011, with her debut album The Cherry On My Cake, which was surprisingly mature for such a young artist. It was a reflection of 4 years abroad as a distinguished student at the Berklee College of Music, where she graduated in 2009.
Many times she had to play and sing in American restaurants and bars to help cover costs, which turned out to be decisive real-time education for her stage career. In Luisa, her fourth album (2016), there is a stronger bond with her listeners, showing the artist has entered a new level of creative maturity, ahead of her age, as always. Luísa states she wouldn’t change the turmoil of her life for anything in this world. The stage is her home. And she kindly invites us to visit her. And makes us feel at home."

The magazine that advanced with the initial rumours about Salvador having heart problems came out with something new: They say that the problem is very serious and that he only has a year to wait for the heart transplant. They even said that it's already arranged that if he finds an heart before Eurovision, his sister Luísa Sobral will replace him in Kyiv....this is becoming very strange now. They wouldn't go this far if there was no truth behind it

Oh no

A part of me is still skeptical, but since someone who posted here in this thread had some inside information about these rumours, I can't help but feel torn: torn, because I'd prefer for Salvador to live healthy, and also because the performance would be different if Luisa sung it instead of Salvador. Luisa had said it herself, she wrote the song with her brother's voice in mind. His interpretation, gestures and trumpet will be missed if it does happen.

I've heard a few opinions on youtube saying that they didn't get the song when Salvador was singing it, but they did when Luisa sang the song, so there would be some out there who would prefer her singing the song.

Still, it is much better than replacing the song itself - in the WiwiBlog live performance, you can hear even the people inside the room were singing along to Salvador- which made his sister Luisa give a wry smile as she played.

Do you really believe that Salvador would have accepted to go to Kyiv with such a serious health condition? He wouldn't. He's fine, as far as I know, and Correio da Manhã is known for their fake news and clickbait titles. Don't believe in anything they say.

I really doubt the medical side of these "news". If a person is suffering from a heart condition so serious that he needs to have a transplant within only one year, I really dont that same person is able to walk out on stage, stand up and sing during a whole 3 minutes.
With a really serious heart failure (that would be the reason for a transplant) the person would be out of breath, and not able to hold those notes as Salvador is doing. Neither do I see any other signs of serious heart failure looking at his live performances.
He might have a problem with his heart - but this seems to be way out of line.

Yes, that was what I meant by "They wouldn't go this far if there was no truth behind it". I doubt the situation is as dramatic as that tabloid is saying, but he probably does have some sort of problem in his heart, and that is very sad to know :(

This is so sad because it's actually true... I can feel it :( health comes first and I hope Salvador gets well as soon as possible.

The song has quite a bit of support from the UK- He's currently #9 on the Viral Spotify Charts on the most English-standard-insisting country XD Currently doing a university unit looking at the different English(es) around the world. A lot of people there are relating to the song. It's slightly telling on the quality of the songs, considering not many songs make it to their country's spotify playlists, except for perhaps Portugal, France, Sweden, Italy and Belgium.
