Re: PORTUGAL 2016

They might as well change the contest name to Farcetival da Cancao because that's what it has become :(

Please send someone with a song that could make us say, "Portugal deserves to win this year." xpray

I hope they cancel Festival da Canção and go for an internal selection with a great famous artist and a great song. And they need to promote the entry a lot (not only in Europe, but also inside Portugal). I think a national final should only return after few years of successful internal selections, after Eurovision is popular again here, and hopefully in a completely different format from what FdC is nowadays.

This was not an easy post to read but is probably correct.

If that happens I hope they won't screw it up like MRT did here Kaliopi was a great choice and it did raise up the popularity here. But grouping Esma and Lozano was one of the worst internal choice I have ever seen plus bad songs didn't help not only did ESC popularity plummet from it highest level in 2012 it became less popular than ever here, mainly because MRT thought it was a good idea to combine polar opposites. Tijana was good but the performance really ruined the song afterwords we returned to a NF which was just as horrible as SkopjeFest (my least favourite NF)

Re: PORTUGAL 2016

RTP just needs to take Festival da Canção seriously. Also, diversity of music genre is needed for the Festival.

For example, Greek national final has fewer participants but I think its quality is better than Portuguese one, because four participants sings different songs with different languages and different styles of music. For me Festival da Canção 2015 was Fado Fado and Fado?

Anyway I hope Catarina Pereira can finally represent Portugal in ESC 2016 and make it to the Final.

Re: PORTUGAL 2016

Basically the whole RTP's team needs to change. Replying to the criticism about Portugal's entries to Eurovision, to our results and to the bad quality of our NFs, our HoD basically said that they did everything they could to get a better result and that they tried everything they can. I'm afraid she is completely delusional.

Oh gosh that is not reassuring at all. They seem more hopeless than the BBC. They can't even recognise the fact that they must be doing something wrong when they've failed to qualify so often.

Exactly the same situation as for Croatia. Portugal's esc stock somewhere in time and is no moving. Simply, young, motivated people need to take over. I feel that your country (Portugal) is full of potential for great esc result, just like mine...but simply, it seems some people rather enjoy their positions than overall good...:( xcry1

Yes, that is exactly the case. The people that are part of our delegation are always the same every year. And the format for our NF involves inviting composers, and the composers invited have been almost the same that have participated in the last 10 years. Those composers are basically the friends of the members of the delegation. At least in our 2008-2010 period the NF was open for everybody.
Basically the mindset of our delegation is "yay we get to travel for free to an European city every year!"

First of all, you can't organize a NF in f**king two weeks. And no, that is not giving their best because Leonor's song was like a cooked leg - uneatable and blah. Second, we (Portuguese and Croats) have the same problem, you're not the only one. And third, eventhough we all hate Björkman, but he and his team are starting with MF plans right after the end of the previous one! And you know why? Because he cares for Sweden in Eurovision, eventhough he also had his flops like Malena Ernman and Anna Bergendahl.

Re: PORTUGAL 2016

From an another forum. He's a member of OGAE Portugal:
I've got some bad news, I'm afraid.

RTP forgot about the deadline for the pre-application and only found out about it after OGAE Portugal sent them an email asking if they were in or out for 2016. I don't know what will happen now, though. Sick of these incompetent idiots.

Re: PORTUGAL 2016

RTP said to ESCPortugal that haven't sent their application in yet because the EBU moved the first initial deadline to October. It seems that there is already a format planned for Festival da Canção 2016 and they say that the NF will now be more open and varied. I guess this means that now instead of inviting composers to write the songs for the NF they may open a submission period or something. Maybe the genre of songs will be more varied as well.
However, the administration of RTP hasn't given the final confirmation tof wether they accept the changes or not to the delegation yet.
It's confirmed that we won't be returning to the JESC.
