What pains the most is I don't remember getting nearly as much negativity towards our actually hateful entry from last year.

Strange thing is, Há Um Mar Que Sos separa is quite generally liked around here xshrug

The song is well liked because people haven't listened to the other competing songs in order to do a comparison.
My mom liked the song too but Saturday she watched the norwegian NF with me and said that almost every song was 100 times better than all the Portuguese NF songs combined

That's a very Portuguese characteristic, we always like foreign best. Or maybe it's universal, grass is greener on the other side and all that, I really wouldn't know.
I cannot agree with your mother though, as I thought this year's MGP was particularly weak, both performance and song wise.

Anyway, I was comparing this year to previous years when Portuguese songs were perhaps less accepted by a larger internal majority irrespective of its competitors. I feel this one is better liked, but maybe I'm wrong xshrug

Heaven and Monster I thought were ok. Maybe they've got more money for staging, Norway is quite rich like Sweden. But I don't think there's an obvious issue of the music being that much better, maybe it's just the stylistic preference for Scandinavian pop schlager, which seems very popular now, even though it isn't more consistently good than other types of music.

If the general musical taste of Eurovision is the Swedish song this year, or the overrated Italian one for instance then I'm realy glad they are out of touch. There's absolutely nothing 'modern' about Swedish pop schlager or the trio ballad from Italy.

I never said a song has to be or should be modern, I said out of touch. I'm merely referring to the lack of success in Eurovision.

Unfortunately Portugal is currently last in the betting odds and also was last in our Ranking Game.

Yes, I knew about the odds and was absolutely shattered (worse than s marino, really?!), now the ranking game as well...(haven't been keeping up...) This is even the more terrible as I don't usually support my country's entries, so this is totally baffling me.

Feeling like a wreck at the moment, but I suppose I shall have to accept it and move on :(

PS. I was referring to it being liked by my fellow countrymen, not internationally though.

Smaller places without neighbours tend to have less success than others. I was also replying to the person that said the music was 'backwards'. I'd rather somewhere kept to it's own language, didn't bring in Swedish songwriters and settled on appealing to those with wider taste rather than retreating into the samey sound most others do now. I enjoy it more as a festival of song rather than it being seen as a contest that rewards the best songs (I don't think it often does).

The more i go through the threads in this forum page, the more i start to wonder whether people actually dislike Portugal entry... or they just don't pay attention to it at all. All the votes combined in the ranking barr barely makes 100 people cheking it out. The song was released 2 weeks ago. Other countries with recent entries get 10 times the amount of votes in a couple of hours. So regardless of any quality factor, people just seem to dismiss this instantly, cause it's from a rather irrelevant country in Esc history. Leonor song isn't a masterpiece. But don't tell me it's lhe worst entry in lhe competition so far! It ranks as if it was.

Yeh it's silly. It's like there's a ranking of countries to be interested in, but much of Eurovision is about hype rather than music.

If Portugese NF had an energy and a way of entertainment closer to Sweden, for instance, I'm sure the votes would have been different, even with Leonor winning and the others from this year competing. I think they simply do not pay attention to it because of this aspect, not to mention that people who are new to the ESC community tend to follow the majority. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding a lot of songs because of the NFs. Portugal is one of these countries who, even if it sends good songs, will have a bad start.

Well the Portuguese final last year, barring the nastiness that followed, was pretty fun and exciting. We also ended up with an entry that people had multiple opinions on.

In my opinion his year was just REALLY dull and boring xshrug

We say here in Slovenia that neighboor's cookies are always sweeter than those baked at home :)

Oh, and one more thing. I love your mouse with headphones

Portugal has the same problem as Slovenia and for instance Norway. Portugal always gives a handful of points to Spain, but Spain rarely gives Portugal in return. Similarily Norway usually got less from Sweden to whom they always gave big points. And the same holds true for Slovenia: we always give douze points to Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia, but only rarely get anything in return. Portugal has no real allies in ESC, that is true... And this poses huge problem, not only to win the ESC, but already to proceed to finals...

U know what, dear friend?

You should send this pic of your mouse with headphones to Marjetka and Raay. I am sure they would love it, publish it on their facebook page, and compliment it as they did with another one the other day :) I love it, it's fantastic :p

I don't think people actually dislike this, they are mostly indifferent to it which can be much more lethal. I believe it is very unfair to blame its unpopularity to the fact it comes from Portugal. I'm sure everybody would be happy to cheer for Portuagl if they liked the entry. One just has to accept that they don't xshrug

Yeah, i agree with it. I think what i was trying to say is i'd rather see a poll with a massive amount of votes ranking it zero... than hardly any votes at all. It shows indifference. You've worded it better than me.

Song wise, both years were embarrassingly poor. They usually always are anyway. I understand that to most, last year may have been more amusing.
I, of course, didn't think so IOTAP

Here in Portugal we use hens (chickens)! The grass is English, of course
I wonder what other countries use, maybe they all use a different image?

Glad you like my mouse :D

It's confirmed, the Portuguese song was revamped!
The version handed to the EBU was already the final revamped version. Apparently the song is more rock now, and the instrumental was worked on.
It's not known when this version will be released, but hopefully they're working on a video to go with it!
