Re: PORTUGAL 2014

If Beyoncé's "true pop" then I demand she return all those Grammies she got in the R&B categories

God I HATE that woman.... so overrated xpuke

lol when i said true pop i was refering to artists that are able to have songs you can dance in a club (even if you like them or not) :p

Gosh @ A-lister, serious, I just want one ballad like that out of 40 entries.. :?

It's pretty much you wish for in all threads. If it were up to you, ESC would be pretty much only in English and with Americanized stuff

Why even wish for an AMERICAN ballad in ENGLISH in Eurovision?? Did USA suddenly join? Not even in the US stuff like that is popular anymore and haven't been since the 90's

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I really need some BIG ballad in English in ESC, but with very good English, like from the USA accent.. and some AMAZING backing vocalists..it didn't happen to ESC for years! :? :(

Mrm, tell me, have you made a pact with some kind of demon, or a promise to a saint maybe, related to the fact that you would forever be haunting A-Lister, stalking him to face his worst ESC nightmares?

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

OMG I just saw Emanuel is back to FDC! I'm soooooooooooooooooo happy! Personaly I dont like his songs but I think they would work very well in esc. I just hope he is not the one singing it :p In fact i bet the girl on this video is the one to sing it.

One of his late hits:

btw, it was also revealed that the theme for this FDC would be: "Alegria é o tom" a.k.a "Joy is the tone".

I must say that wishing for an American ballad in English in ESC (and btw this is the Portuguese thread) is blasphemy and provocations!

Oh I totally agree... theres no comparison between the hideous ballad that represented Russia last year and the great one that represented Austria in 2011

Indeed. I'm not that optimistic about FdC. If Emanuel is the type of composers they're going to invite, and with 100% televoting, will possibly end up with a lame pimba song, and it'd be a total disgrace!
Plus, they need to invite composers with songs ready, because they'll have only one month to prepare themselves! Things are not looking very bright, but hopefully my opinion will be changed when the songs are presented.

That's true, emanuel's name crashed on me like a regular dream killer and I'm not as optimistic as I was before. Still, Tiago Pais Dias is a rumoured name and I'm not one who easily abandons hope xwait

The draw does not look quite promising for us... X-OI

You have Spain and France and you are in the second half. I think Portugal is one of the advantaged countries to get the free spots the ex Soviets don't take. If the song is good, of course ;)

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I just hope being in the second half won't be an excuse for the producers to put us perform right after the commercial break. :geek:

The 1st semi seems so hard... And so many ex-soviet countries in the same semi-final. :?

But we still have to wait for the song. :p

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I don't know if guaranteed points from France and Spain as well as a few loose ones is enough to overcome the heaviness of the x-ussr and other countries there xshrug

The WHOLE top half excluding Lativa are guaranteed and so are Ukraine so that leaves only 2 spots open. Then you have Belgium, Hungary, Netherlands and Moldova too!

Portugal need close to a home run in song and presentation if they want to be in the discussion for the last 2 spots. Its going to be REALLY tough and their past history isn't that comforting but hopefully they think differently this year.

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I think it is just a bit awful the way everybody keeps talking about guaranteed points and countries and stuff. I know that exists of course, but I like to believe that songs are mostly valued for their worth.
In my view, Portugal has never missed a final unjustly. It has, however, surprised me a couple of times by stepping in there undeserving.

I'm sure that if the song is good enough, we'll get the necessary points. If it's not, what do we want to be in the final for?

Don't really think so... It was a very middle of the road kind of song. it wouldn't have been a scandal to see it in the final, but I can't say I actually missed it there.
