Re: PORTUGAL 2014

And so it seems that this year's FdC will be held under a theme as well as in 2012, in this case Joy is the Mood (free translation). Of course, this sounds very open, but it looks like RTP has been listening to all those complaining about boring ballads and fado and is timidly asking for more uptempo creations.

I'm a bit worried, particularlly as the brilliant mind behind Dança Comigo has already been officially invited. why does RTP have to keep remembering these names who should be, by rights, forgotten?
I don't really care if it will be a ballad or an uptempo song, or indeed any genres, as long as it is a tad more than decent. Genre, just like the Portuguese language, is not the issue. Creative song writing is.

Come on, Dança conmigo came so close to qualifying in 2007, when we had 28 countries in the semifinal. That would means Sabrina would've easily qualified in the recent years and get a decent result.

I'd rather not invite to who composed the dull ballad you sent in 2010.......

Don't remind me of the 2010 entry xcrazy, it's one of those cases that proves the "anti-jury camp" right. Yes, it would have qualified based on televotes alone aswell (9th in its semi), but for the juries to award it 2nd place in its semi is just truly beyond me, it was just 3 minutes of pure wailing and nothing else really :?

"Dança conmigo", though decent, was sounding dated back then too, I doubt an entry sounding like that could do much wonders in 2014 xshrug

No, I didn't mean that. I meant it would've qualified and get a decent result in 2007 if we had two semis with less than 18 countries like we have now.

It's hard to tell really, it would have probably qualified back then if there were two semis, but in recent years with different competitors aswell as juries added to the mix? Hard to tell...

Sorry, but the only thing worse than having that song representing us would be having it actually qualifying for the final. ;) Thank God there was only one semi back then! :D

I believe that was a journalist, not a real musician, so I doubt he'll come round to it ever again

Catarina Pereira was amazing, but her song came some years late... I don't think it would've done much better than the dull ballad they sent.

Catarina is a very nice girl, but she was far from amazing tbh. Her singing was more than a bit shaky and that might have been the reason why she didn't win. Song had great potential though.

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I'll pretend I never read this

I wonder why you feel this entry to be so horrible? :)
It is bland, yes, and generic and dull and uninteresting, but not unlike many other similar ballads that every year fill the ESC. So much so that it is hardly worth mentioning, if one recalls it at all.
But is it our worst entry in recent history or indeed ever? No, I don't think so NONO

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

"Há Dias Assim" isn't terrible at all. Its just as i anixi said bland, generic, dull, uninteresting and most importantly completely forgettable. But its hardly an offense even in the world of Eurovision, there are far worse xshrug

And anyone who claims its one of Portugal's worst clearly hasn't seen any other Portuguese entries :D

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Portugal's 2011 entry was terrible. Everyone would agree to this. Their 2010 entry was boring and dull, and coming 2nd in the semi was overrated. Their 2012 entry was my number 1 for the year.

I've heard both of Rui Andrade's songs in 2011 and 2012 and they were enough for me. I hope he doesn't get chosen.

Well, I dislike it for all those reasons you just mentioned, plus it was pretty much just 3 minutes of wailing without any proper hook or anything xshrug

It's not your worst, but it's definitely not one of your better entries either...

Do you find Cyprus 2006 - Annet Artani - 'Why do the angels cry" only wailing?? I find it AWESOME, I wish to hear more vocals like that in ESC, it almost rerminded me of gospel, these backings were MAGNIFICENT, the best in ESC!!

Oh gosh, please don't remind me of that crap

Wailing is the worst type of singing that American musical imperialism brought to Europe... blää xpuke

And seeing these European acts acting wannabe American is just so faux... it has nothing to do with ESC or Europe or anything, not even contemporary US music have those useless wailing ballads any more xshrug Somehow they found their way back to the public eye though crap like American Idol... but that is something ESC should NOT copy...

I really need some BIG ballad in English in ESC, but with very good English, like from the USA accent.. and some AMAZING backing vocalists..it didn't happen to ESC for years! :? :(

Move to the US and watch American Idol or The Voice... there you'll get plenty of that crap xpuke

Please don't wish the death for ESC though, no need to bring more dated crap like that to this contest  Why are you so Europhobic? Eurovision or American-Idol-Vision-Wail-Contest? xshrug
