Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I'm afraid it will be the same old, same old!

Maybe not, look at the positive changes: composers get to pick singers and our nasty set of jurors is going to be swept away. Plus, they have invited Amor Electro as composers once, they might do so again!
I'm just hoping it's televote only and not online voting, which is always so scary and liable to cheating.

And hey!, it's yet another NF to watch!

(just worried about this very short notice though...)

Catarina Pereira in televoting she was 1st! in 2011 with 10000 votes
Filipa Avezado in televoting she had 3000 votes in the final of FdC 2011 :/

I hope Catarina will try again! :)

What I really hope is no juries at all in Festival da Cançao or, at least, they fire all the previous members. They f*cked it all many times.

The voting will be 100% televoting in both the semi-final and the final.
This is good for one side, has our set of jurors was ridiculous, but on the other side, if there is a joke entry it will have big chances of winning. I think this won't happen though, has RTP will hopefully invite good composers who will be in it to win it. For me, the perfect system would be 50%/50%, but with an actual good professionals et of juries that can support all genres.

On other news, RTP has also invited foreign composers. The final list will be revealed this month.
The songs will be sung in Portuguese, but they can be changed to English or another language for Eurovision. RTP and the singers will decide if so after the NF.
Also, RTP is going to make the show in a venue, that will be revealed later. Here's hoping for Campo Pequeno!

If they make a good selection they can get rid of the joke songs. 50-50 would be a perfect system, but Portuguese juries have shown they just ruin the whole thing.

About the foreign composers...... Does it mean we'll have at least 5 Babic's songs?

 I wouldn't mind a song from him, but hopefully RTP will have some more original composers :D

I guess it doesn't matter if its 50/50 or 100 televote it really comes down to the songs and getting rid of those joke entries!

I mean look at Homens da Luta in 2011. I guess its not surprising that they got 12 from the televote but even the jury gave them 6 points xdoh. And everyone who got more jury points somehow did REALLY terrible in the televote xdohxdoh

They're not going to allow joke entries, I hope. They said that from now on Eurovision will be a top priority for them, and they'll take it very seriously. And that would be the opposite

I'll believe it when I see it ;). I mean even the BBC just claimed to be passionate about and take Eurovision seriously too and we know what they end up offering

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

First rumors say that Carlos Costa and Rui Andrade are interested.
But the BIGGEST surprise is Simone de Oliveira who represented Portugal back in 1969!

Joke entries can be very good too, why dismiss them like that? I like a good joke entry, I believe they have their place in eurovision as well. Not easy to achieve though. Of course, Homens da Luta was among the worst I've ever seen in the genre as it was musically nil and it wasn't even funny.

Yes, but the thing is I doubt they'd be a good joke entry

About those two names: Rui Andrade was expected. Le sigh. But hopefully if the song is good, he can surprise me.
About Simone de Oliveira, she is too old, and I doubt she has a good voice nowadays. Plus, the song would probably be way too old-fashioned, and I can't see her competing at all.

I'm sure they are very interested indeed, they always are. Hopefully, no one will be interested in them xcrossed

That's only a joke, surely ;) ( I don't believe I could go through such punishment though, after years of laughing at the English  )

I hope Carlos Costa doesn't enter. His performance on FdC 2012 was so incredibly cringe worthy

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I am actually starting to get optimistic for Portugal 2014. I am hoping that the 2013 time-out will lead to the broadcaster taking ESC a bit more seriously; meaning quality singers and songs (at least a few quality entries). I hope 2013 was well-spent; and that we will see a new and more serious approach to the ECS.

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Joke entry for Portugal?? No please NO! We already have poor chance to shine with good songs but with JOKES??!! It's even worse!!! :( It's because of this that I'm SO proud to live in the Island of Madeira (where both Vânia Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo were born!!)
