Re: POLAND 2014

Will this be the entry of Poland ?

I'd hope TVP would have the guts to send this (or anything like it), but I doubt it... also not sure whether Donatan & Cleo actually would want to go to ESC? This was a huge hit in Poland, but popular acts don't really want to do ESC in Poland though xshrug

For me I'd want either that song or Halina Mlynkova's "Bóg Tu Zmarł" if I could choose freely between existing, eligible and by the public proposed songs... or some new entry (preferably composed by Piotr Rubik) with a good singer in a similar style like the beautiful "Psalm dla Ciebie" or something as cool as Gooral ...

... but knowing TVP, I'm not having high hopes but hopefully we could all be happily surprised...

Ok, if it's not Edyta, then I hope it's not Natasza.... xfaint
My personal second option for us is Halina Mlynkova with "Bóg tu zmarł".

I read somewhere that Donatan and Cleo wanted to go to the Eurovision, but I doubt that TVP would send them.

They will probably send Natasha Urbańska. For all I remember, he participated 2 times in Piosenka dla Europy and I think she seill wants to go to the Eurovision. We need to wait for February (It may be 14th, as every year we had a final, it was held on the Valentines Day).

Wow, Donatan & Cleo really said they'd do ESC??? That'd be really cool, but yeah TVP don't have the guts for it.

Natazsa could be a good option, not sure about her latest song though... sure it's out-of-the-box and very risky which atleast on paper makes it look interesting, but if they wanna go risky then Donatan & Cleo is a FAR better option.

'My Słowianie' would be a good choice, it's interesting. Mayby it's not a big deal, but the BBC webside wrote about its success in Poland, the German TV or webside (don't remember, a webside is more probable) also metioned it. So it's a small success;)

But, as I said - I have a feeling that it's gonna be Natasha.

Who Rafał? With Ewelina you mean Lisowska? She's ok... but Donatan & Cleo would be so much cooler (and less predictable) of a choice.

Though the juries might kill Poland's chances... but then again maybe not... EBU probably want them to stick around...

I find him meh and not very "cute" either xshrug

Re: POLAND 2014

Donatan said few times if they got an offer they would consider it seriously. In other words, they are not going to "jump before orchestra", but if TVP asked them "he doesn't say no".

And I just cannot believe it could be Urbańska. Come on, even TVP isn't so dumb to come up with a song with 95% thumbs down on YT, with a song which has become a main theme of internet memes for some days, a song which, as gossip portals announce, may cause a delay in releasing Natasza's new CD (because of the audience reaction for "Rolowanie" of course)... I was in fact shocked reaction of people here was so positive, but mind you: this masterpiece became a topic of jokes in Poland.

I see, well it would be nice if Donatan/Cleo would actually be the choice. It would be a bold choice by TVP, but I think it could pay off. I can't even realize that I'm saying this, but that song should maybe be done partly in English because it relies alot on understanding the lyrics. Now, I know that not all will understand nor care about the lyrics anyways, but still part of the whole "point" in that song is actually getting the lyrics. Not sure how it would turn out in English though, only if Cleo is able to have atleast decent English and if it's done in a good way... if not then 100% Polish!

I think Polish people hate her song more than people from abroad, it's a chaotic track but it still got some interesting aspects... It's very risky though (and perhaps a bit too odd for the general public).

Don't be in shock guys! I wrote partly English, not fully ;)

The thing is, this song relies lots on its lyrics. It's not some typical song about love or partying or what else, it's and ironic take at Slavic/Polish stereotypes but in the mean time it's very much directed at Western Europe and pretty much a tongue-in-cheek statement with a message like "oh you think you're better than us, well we are Slavic people and we got the actual good stuff here and let us tell you why..."... also, since the melody is kinda simplistic and repeating and done a "rap fashion", it wouldn't do that much harm to atleast have one verse and chorus in English. However, I'd only approve of a partly translation if Cleo actually could handle rap-talking/singing convincingly in English and if the translation would be done in a smart fashion fitting the tune yet still keeping a similar message, if not then English is a big no-no.

Now, in almost all cases I'd prefer native languages to be used (well atleast for songs not to be translated from their original language), and as I've argued plenty of times before I acknowledge the fact that English is not as universally understood across Europe as some might think, also it's true that ESC may not be the first event people tune in to because they pay much attention to the lyrics, but in this very case it's so dependent on an understanding of the lyrics plus the ones who are actually the "target group" of this song would actually be western Europeans (who already have a pretty good understanding of English).

Now, as I said initially, if this song would have been about partying or love or whatever, I would have never even raised the idea of it being translated, but since this song is actually irony and carrying a tongue-in-cheek message then the situation is a bit different.

A sort of partly accurate translation of the lyrics can be found here: http://sz-n.com/2013/11/us-slavs-music-video-condemned-as-pornographic-by-the-bbc-polish-and-english-text-and-video-2/

^ I think, if you read the lyrics, you'd understand my point here.

My world has just turned upsite down
Seriously, i don't think this song needs english at all, My Slowianie speaks for itself, slavic is an international word, everyone will understand it, there are ethnic elements in the song, add national costumes on stage and nobody will need a single word in english to understand there's a "slavic pride parade" going on :D
P.S: I listen to this song all the time, if Poland sends it i officially promise to move Poland at least 5 positions up in my countries ranking x12s

You might be right, it's just that the lyrics are so tongue-in-cheek and out there and unlike anything we got in ESC before really.

Regardless, this would probably end up being one of my favs aswell. The juries might kill it though because this is way beyond their narrow-minded comprehension of music, though EBU should understand that if Poland fails this year they'd probably drop out for good.

I'd like that song to represent Poland, it's really great combination of folk and modern which is rare at ESC..extremely RARE!
