Re: POLAND 2014

WHAT did Ruslana do exactly? Ok I know that's totally off-topic, but since you mentioned it? I know she's been an active force in the ongoing demonstrations in Ukraine, but burned herself???

She mentioned that she'll burn herself if nothing changes, I don't think she'd ever do that though (she still has to judge in Eurosong 2014 trololol) but she said it.

So let's hope something WILL change (and for the better)

I doubt she'd do it, but people who are really convinced and fight for something could take extreme actions...

I remember that someone sacrificed himself in the Cold War, he killed himself in peace on a famous square, just for the sake of the Soviet-Union changing the communism (that case just ended in the deafpot btw, poor guy)

If none of the Polish 'big acts' are interested in Eurovision, they need to find someone up and coming with a drive to succeed, charisma and half-decent song. Aka, Germany 2010. I realize it's easier said than done, but I bet it would take one great result for Poland to get interested in ESC again.

As I wrote on the other page, finding a popular act might help ESC reputation in Poland first and foremost, but in the end of the day the entry is the most important thing here (since that's what Poland failed at mostly rather than the acts - eventhough the acts may have not been all that all the time).

I just hope the guy from The Voice posted on the other page isn't the one TVP has in mind, because he seem to be such a bore musically and as a stage-person.

Re: POLAND 2014

It's not surprising the "big acts" aren't interested but the only thing they need to concentrate on right now is getting a good result. Then we can start talking about "big acts" representing the country :). If it takes The Voice participants to achieve good result then so be it.

Maybe there is a Polish American/European who they can draft (like Isis Gee in 08) to represent them xthink. Hopefully after one or two decent results the "big acts" will get interested. We can hope there is a Polish Anouk out there willing to take on the challenge but Poland isn't the Netherlands and ESC interest is nowhere the same xshrug.

Besides their returning after a 2 year absence, we can't have everything we want from them all at once. Lets just be glad their back

Isis Gee (whom btw is not Polish, she just happened to be married to a Polish dude), was a dreadful entry. I really hope we won't get something as conventionally boring as that one. As for the rest, you're totally right. In the current state, Poland need to focus on getting a strong entry rather than obsessing over getting popular acts on ESC... sure the latter would be nice, but established acts need to see that Poland has a future and can be successful in ESC if they would ever consider it.

That's my memory of Isis and "For Life" xrofl3

I always thought that Isis Gee was a Polish-American such like her husband...

Not that I'm aware of, oh and her husband... not to be rude, but it all gives me sugar-daddy/"economically arranged relationship" vibes

I must admit though, Isis is a gifted vocalist, but both she, her vocals and musical style lack personality (and I guess whatever she lacks in that she's making up for with plastic solutions... payed by her husband perhaps?). Ok ok I'm just rude now, she's actually talented and she does come across as sympathetic...

Bottom-line though: Please do not send something as conventionally boring like that TVP!

"For life" is, for me, one of the worst entries in the last years on the ESC. So incredibly boring, never finished listening to the song, I think.

Re: POLAND 2014

Well Wikipedia (not the most reliable source I know) says she is of Polish descent. Her real last name is Wimer, is that Polish

No, it's not. But she took her husband's name, so she's now Gołębiowska, and this is a Polish last name. However, she is not of Polish descent.

Thanks for the clear up :). Wimer actually sounds more German then Polish to me but considering Poland's history I wasn't sure.

On a side note everytime I see a last name ending in "ska" I think they must be Polish but that's probably an incorrect way of thinking too

Well, a lot of the last names ending in -ski and -ska are indeed Polish, but many of them can also be Russian or Macedonian, I think. ;)
And returning to Isis, that's one of our entries I'd better like to forget about, though it wasn't the worst one.
