Some reflections after having seen all the semifinals in our Norwegian MGP 2022. All in all I have not been that impressed with the level of entries I must say but I have seen worse so can't complain that much.

I only see 2 songs as probable winners of this year's MGP:

Elsie Bay 'Death of Us'
or
Subwoolfer 'Give That Wolf a Banana'

The ballad by Elsie is with quality and style and of the sort which Norwegians often love in MGP and vote for and it would not surprise me if it wins in the end. She sings decently well live (not great imo but fine), and the song has 'character' and style which separates it from an 'average' ballad.

The song by Subwoolfer is a crazy and 'out there' somewhat comedic and 'gimmicky' but also fun and happy entry which stands out. It has an energetic stage show, melody wise it's a distant cousin of Lithuania's The ROOP's entry last year and with elements of Daft Punk, and it's the type of entry some will find silly and foolish while others will find much fun and e.x.hilarating 'and just what ESC needs'. It's the kind of entry one would expect more from some Eastern European countries in ESC than Norway I would say but could get a lot of votes in MGP if people are in the mood for some 'extravagant fun'.

I would personally be happy with either of these entries as the MPG-winner and our representative in ESC in May in Italy, but must admit the 'Wolf' entry is just so outrageously fun and wild with the stage show and everything that I think it would be fun to enter it in ESC (and I say that being a person who very seldom likes comedic entries in ESC). I also think it could get quite a few televotes from Europe (but few jury votes) and become quite popular.

However, if Norway is in a more serious mood they might pick the song by Elsie instead and it too might become quite popular (this time with juries more than televotes perhaps). I think both have very big chances of going to the final which is always great.

It would surprise me if an other song than these two wins MGP, but one never knows - there have been surprises before in the contest. We will know the answer in a week's time, let's hope my fellow Norwegians choose wisely.

PS. I still haven't come across any confirmation here in Norwegian media who the guys in the wolf-masks in Subwoolfer are. Some have guessed the Ylvis-brothers (who have done similar things in the past), I have also seen some believe at least one of the members is the Norwegian singer Gaute Ormåsen. Perhaps they will keep it secret - an added 'gimmick' to attract interest/excitement - or we will be informed in time.
