Re: NORWAY 2019
I always enjoy Norway's MGP quite a bit, and over-all it's a pretty good year, but for sure not one of the best and I don't think anything here has clear top 10 potential. Just like with Iceland, they could do so much better than this.
My top 5:
1.
Mørland - En Livredd Mann ... I adore the guy and his music, I think he's just brilliant, and "A Monster Like Me" is possibly my most favourite Eurovision entry ever. I'm not as convinced by this one, especially as the mood of the song doesn't completely grab me (though it definitely does create a mood at least) and there's no clear stand-out moment in this song imo, but even considering that, it's still a damn stunning and masterful entry that keeps growing on me with some amazing production and melodies and I love, love how well he can emote with his voice. I would also absolutely love it if Norway sent an entry in Norwegian. Maybe it's too predictable of a choice and Keiino offers something more fun, but I still think it'd be a shame if this song was lost in the national final, because in terms of quality and ambition it's miles ahead from the rest in my opinion.
2.
Keiino - Spirit In The Sky ... I kind of don't know what to think about it, because I have so many conflicting thoughts. I honestly don't even know if it knows what it wants to be itself. The dated feel makes me hate it and love it simultaneously and it's annoyingly yet amazingly Eurovision. I think what makes it confusing most of all is I don't know how seriously they take this song themselves. If they don't take it too seriously, I'm on board.
Definitely not the classiest choice Norway could make and it's not a current radio hit by any means nor anything groundbreaking at all, but it does stand out and it could be quite interesting.
3.
Adrian Jorgensen - The Bubble ... It's super sweet and pleasant to listen to, albeit not very ambitious. Also the female voice coming in so late was quite random, though it enriches the song. I like it, but it's definitely overshadowed by Mørland's song and ultimately falls into the gray mass of so many songs that are similar to it in general.
4.
Ingrid Berg Mehus - Feel ... It's pretty enjoyable, the mix of the violin and the electronic sound is quite interesting here, especially at the instrumental chorus, which is something I usually hate. But I feel like the potential was bigger here than the execution, I'm not really into the melody or her delivery of it. Still, it's in the better half for me.
5.
D'Sound - Mr. Unicorn ... It's a fun one without sounding blatantly dated or annoying (like some of the other songs in the selection). Not particularly interesting, though, and I don't think it's the type of song to work well on stage or at Eurovision, but it gets me moving.
