I'm obviously extremely biased as this is my favourite by far (together with Greece). But it feels like this winning would be the healthiest option for the future of the contest, this has the most obvious hit potential out of all the contenders and fits right in with the post-pandemic winners.
Funny how we see things. I’ve said it before but I feel a Dutch win this year would set the contest back and be more harmful than good.

Of course there is the story to the song but will the general audience pick up on that in the final? I doubt it, especially when the song is presented in a joke way.

All it would do is ‘confirm’ to the general audience that this is what a ‘Eurovision song’ should sound like. The last few winners have been moving away from that preconceived idea for the betterment of the contest.

This winning, imo, would be a massive backwards step.

I lowkey agree. He's already popular across Europe, even some of my friends in Slovenia know him and his songs.

I know what u mean but this is a very qualitative song, objectively speaking. The production on it is insane.

But tbh, I would be fine with all The Netherlands, Ukraine, Italy, France, Switzerland winning... As long as it's not Croatia.

I’ve never criticised the production quality of the song tbh as it is a well put together song, I’ve just never liked it and what it’s doing.

To me, having a song that’s meant to be as deep and impactful as it is meaning wise but produced in the tacky, cheap early 00s era of Eurovision style doesn’t work for me. It’s something the contest moved away from good reason and should stay clear of.

It’s never felt genuine to me as a result. It’s felt a very cynical televote ploy kind of song. Croatia to a lesser extent is the same for me, but I find that way less annoying and problematic.

Of course all songs want to win the televote, but on the whole they don’t go about it like this anymore as the contest has (for the most part) moved on.

I am pretty confident this will win the whole thing. My only doubt is if he is actually capable to sing

I am pretty confident that the "serious" aspect of the song will be a central part of the staging. Everything in the song builds towards the breakdown in the last minute, and then the final emotional release of the outro.

All that then is needed for context is the commentators just briefly explaining his backstory and how it ties into the message of the song in like two sentences, then I think audiences will have no trouble picking up on it.

No different than commentators explaining that the song titled "Rim Tim Dagi Tim" by the artist named "Baby Lasagna" is about emigration anxiety and not purely a Scatman John tribute act with LED barnyard animals.

What we feel is a step forwards or backwards is of course pretty subjective so won't try to convince you haha. The issue I have with the current market leader :ch: is that it feels too typical Eurovision is with it's bland lyrics and vocal masturbation acrobatics instead of a real song, so I understand where you are coming from. :D

Still don't believe this will win, but will be happy for every point it gets! :)

April 21. Dutch stage director Gover Meit teases Joost Klein's staging: “It will be a new form of the moon landing. It has never been done before. People are not going to believe that this is physically possible ".

To be clear: this is Gover Meit

It's in Dutch, but if there is one person crazier than Joost, it is probably him.

If you are not Dutch, just watch a minute.

Netherlands staging looks AMAZING. Very, very, entertaining and Joost is just naturally charismatic and brings so much personality. I'm not sure about the blue bird though, not a fan so far.

It is fun. it is also not winning Eurovision.

Anyway, the :3: I gave is a bit outdated. It's not my fave, but I like it now.

I should like this more than I do. I used to like Eurodance back then but apart from getting some nostalgic vibes it doesn’t really click with me. It may be a tad too happy kiddie hardcore for me but I like his personality and the dude from New Kids was a smart move, I‘m digging it. 8 points.
