They sing it in a higher key now. It was solid, but I also feel it's a bit less impactful now. For them it's good this live tv performance went well tho, the negativity around them in the media and all got a bit too much imo.

But in a way, it's more impactful, less sound but more emotions, imo. If Iceland, Portugal and Armenia all managed to qualify in a ballad-heavy semi-final (with Greece, Croatia, the Netherlands also being in it), I believe this can qualify too when the only other ballad is Switzerland.

I think that Burning Daylight is a safer qualifier than Watergun. I've seen little or no love for Watergun, no buzz, no momentum about it although he does have a good voice. The reaction when Burning Daylight was released wasn't rapturous either but I've seen more positive views than Watergun. I see Switzerland as a NQ this year.

I find burning daylight way more authentic and touching than Watergun even tho he has better vocals. And authenticity is what matters when it comes to the televote and ballads - Maro and S10 did way better than Nadir last year. And Remo sounds more Fade to Black, while Burning Daylight sounds more authentic. That's my take on it. Not to mention the fact that the Netherlands has a better ro.

I agree, I like Burning Daylight. A good point you raise about Watergun being a bit like Fade to Black, and of course that got no love from the public at all (0 in the semi final and was it 2 in the final?). Fade to Black got little love or buzz before the contest either, fan reaction was really muted

btw, I think this is the version they'll sing at esc. there's no way it's not qualifying, there will be nothing like it at the semi and a very good running order.
I don't think so. The official versions have to be sent by the end of march to the EBU iirc. This version was clearly thought through after the disastrous live performances at the pre parties. Also, the version in the official karaoke is the same as we know. But I do agree this live version is more personal and emotional.

This new version is a million times better. I hope this will be the one they use for Liverpool. I found it much more intimate and just gorgeous. I mean Sam Ryder added his guitar solo version exclusively for Eurovision last year so it's possible.

The higher key + the backings will be used in Liverpool as well.

Yes, much better! I really liked that version, and it was beautifully done. Hopefully if they deliver good vocals in Liverpool they'll Q!

Well, the song is about getting and taking second chances. This always was the plan obviously.

On one hand, I really want to like this song, because this is not too far out from what I like to listen to outside the Eurovision bubble, but on the other hand, there is just something here that does not quite do it for me and It does not "hit me in the feels" as it probably should. Still a very decent song from The Netherlands though and maybe it can grow on me when I listen to it live xup :nl::6:

I was mostly talking about the version they presented. They can change the key and add like backsingers, but I don't think they can present a new version of the song. Unless it's the version they sent, which I doubt. It's still going to be the videoclip version with slight changes. Like key and backsingers as you said.

This is a lot better from the Netherlands.
And this accoustic version would have been excellent actually. But it's ok they are finally singing on key which is a victory already.

And the backing vocalists are a perfect addition!!
I think this can qualify now.

This is a real improvement compared to what we heard at the pre-parties. I would have this as a qualifier right now heading into rehearsals.
This arrangement wont be used though dont be fooled by this its damage control wait until we actually see the full package at eurovision because they cannot use this version of the song

I already had it as a qualifier anyway. You can't take pre-parties too seriously. It's arguably the est radio friendly ballad od semi 1 so it should stand out and also there will be some changes to what you've heard when the song first came out.

People kept citing the fact you cant take pre parties seriously for Austria last year and look what happened

According to AVROTROS, they will be using the version in higher key in Liverpool without breaking any EBU rules apparently.
It won't be the acoustic version as presented in the television show yesterday obviously though
