The biggest letdown this year for me, there was no emotion or connection with the audience. The studio version is great but ultimately in eurovision if you can't make it work live then it's useless

Even though I'd like to think I like the song, I realized that while I enjoy listening to it, as soon as it's over I couldn't remember a single thing about it. I guess it's time to go back to sending country songs. xshrug

The studio version is far superior than the live version because of the live vocals is just no. The change of key (though is a nice attempt for them to not sound horrible) sort of destroyed the song for me. But if anything, I am glad it's this entry that got The Netherlands a NQ.

He didn't even bother to show up in Liverpool while he was their so to say mentor?

I was very surprised about that. No word about Duncan. He was just MIA. I don’t know about other countries but our commentator didn’t even mention the song was written by Duncan. I feel sorry for them because they were thrown in the shark pool from the beginning.

On the other side they never gave the impression they were trying to make the best out of the song. I mean they even accepted the tone pitch was changed. How could they not hear Dion singing in that high voice sounded ridiculous?

Anyway, they never deserved the backlash they received. Like I said, there was so much they could have done with a promising song like Burning Daylight but none of the responsibles ever tried to tweak the song after it was submitted - it still feels like this was the raw version and they were too lazy to change anything.

I personally really liked it and i think they sounded better than expected, the song itself is BEAUTIFUL!
The staging was a bit uneventful and lifeless though and the constant walking was distracting (i think for them aswell) so i see the problem there rather than in their vocals abilities and the song.
I will really miss this in the final, dont think there are really good ballads left

No duo except for The Common Linnets ever benefited from this "look at each other“ stare, walking around each other. In most of the cases it’s painful to watch because the artists lack chemistry.

Duncan said the song is a contender for the win and he wouldn't participate if he didn't believe it would win.
Oh well, this one did not age well 💅💅💅

Usually I dislike Eurovision singing duos. This was actually above average in that category bit still not my cup of tea.

I didnt care for this song but it was really good yesterday.

Somehow I think like the odds really determine the qualifiers no matter the performance.

SF1 2021 was such an example, when Australia, North Macedonia, Croatia and Ireland suddenly looked like qualifiers, and yet they didn’t.

Lowkey I don't because this way :nl: won't get complacent falling into this style forever, like :ch: does since 2020
Yeah low key indeed. I mean I've watched the performance back and compared this to others and honestly it was worthy of a Q, but indeed a bit borderline. You need to have a number of factors that just rob you of a healthy dose of luck to find that NQ, but so many of those factors were indeed there. No jury, vocals not elevating the song, Duncan, staging hampered by not being able to isolate the performance properly, drop into final part just not punchy enough to feel emotional, semi was stronger of the two, Duncan, Switzerland delivering a great performance of song in sort of same genre, all the bullshit during preparties killing any positive buzz, Duncan and of course to top things off Duncan.

But you are not wrong. Low key this should serve as a wake-up call that we can't expect to sleepwalk into the final by just being decent enough to beat the drivel. The rest was catching up, now they have. Time for us to find a way to get ahead of the curve again.

I'm happy the song is out. I'm convinced it was only selected because of Duncan, who I dislike stronger by the year, and the song itself was forgettable (especially the new version), the performance was lackluster and the vocals were bad (I couldn't even make out what they were singing). I hope this wakes up AVRO TROS to not fall for this same crap again, I hope it makes Duncan stay far far far away from future Dutch ESC entries because I hold him personally accountable for the disastrous 2023 selection.

Now NL does not need to send a bop to be relevant and qualify, as De Diepte last year showed. And I hope they'll go back to sending quality entries, regardless of genre. Quality always prevails. This Duncan show however was severely lacking in quality.

Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper from the Netherlands could not inspire enough viewers either. The duet took too long to ignite at the end. It didn't help that the song "Burning Daylight" was penned by Duncan Laurence, winner of 2019 after all.

Yep, I personally liked the song but for a song like that you need good vocals and it wasn't there. Let this be a lesson to AVROTROS.

Why wasn't Duncan in the green room with them? Hoping he didn't just 'decide to distance himself' because he sensed failure. Was he even in Liverpool?
