Re: MALTA 2016

Like:
Deborah
Jasmine
Ira Losco x2 (why does she have two songs?)
Christabelle

I'm guessing its because the last time she went to ESC she finished 2nd. The broadcaster probably really want her to go again so their giving her two chances to make it happen. Their probably hoping, naively or not, lighting could strike twice.

Of course by giving her two songs that could all backfire on them

Re: MALTA 2016

I thought Ira's songs were both kinda rubbish tbh.

Re: MALTA 2016

The last time we had an act with 2 songs in the semi was 2013 when Richard had "Fall like Rome" and "Wonderful Today " with Petra

But as for people asking why Ira has 2 songs in the Semi-Final. The rules state that a singer can have 2 songs in the semi-final, but may only have 1 song in the final

Re: MALTA 2016

At first listen I'd say Maxine Pace and Sarah Crystal. But Fandango would beat them all! Go for Fandango 2016! Change the rules!

Re: MALTA 2016

I think MESC's level has been increased since last year's maltese selection, thus the winner won't be so easy to determine as Amber last year.
My favorite singers/songs are (in a random order) :
-*IRA LOSCO// Chameleon & That's Why I Love You: Both songs are quite good so far except if the entire song is average...
-*JESSIKA// The Flame: I still don't get why it suddenly grew on me during those listenings, I find it very attractive. :)
-*SARAH CRYSTAL// Right Here with You: To me, that's the most promising song in this national final, I hope Sarah will fly the Maltese flag to Stockholm.
-*CHRISTABELLE/ Kingdom: I love the title, it reminds me the background of Slovenian performance at JESC 2015. Nonetheless, it could have the same potential as Ira Losco does have with her both two songs.

OVERALL : It's a very good selection this year, I hope I won't be upset by the results !

Re: MALTA 2016

I gave the snippets a quick peek before I went to bed last night and I was actually in a state of shock at how I wasn't feeling a single song on offer. I know a minute isn't much time to get a feel for a piece of music and some of these will obviously build to something, but gosh.. not looking very promising for my tastes. I've just given them another listen now to see if I feel any differently on second listen, and less tired.

Passable

Jessika Muscat - The Flame
Dario Mifsud Bonnici - I Love You (actually, frick.. I should hate this but I don't for some reason. What's coming over me?)

Didn't instantly repel me

Sarah Crystal - Right Here With You
Christabelle Borg - Kingdom
Franklin Calleja - Little Love
Danica Muscat - Frontline
Jasmine Abela - Alive

Not for me

Everything else

Jessika is fine. Like Lavieenrose I was thinking "oh dear" at first when she started singing, but i'm ok with it and found myself getting into the song more as it went on. For some reason I actually quite like her almost feeble, breathy voice. It's different. On a shallow note, I love looking at her. She's so beautiful and that orange hairxheat
We'll forget about the fact my body secretly wanted to enjoy Dario Mifsud Bonnici's song.. Swiftly moving on. The other songs here didn't speak to me at all. Hopefully when the full versions release there will be some surprises. At this moment in time I can see Maxine Pace walking this, which would lead to one of my iconic window jump moments.

Re: MALTA 2016

The lineup is seriously ODIOUS and HORRIFIC!! :(

Corazon and Ira Losco are the only reasonable choices based on snippets..

Re: MALTA 2016

The only ones i find slightly good are Maxine and Deborah. I know, all these songs are cliched cliches but these 2 at least contain couple original and interesting melodic twists (Maxine's song sounds pretty much like "Don't worry be happy" but only the first 2 lines then it goes away from it, that is way less disturbing than this song that is a blatant Pink's "Just give me the reason" rip-off in the bridge). Maybe the full versions are going to surprise me, i don't know. Hopes are low in here.
It sounds like Malta said "Ok this year we're going to Sweden, let's just all write songs that sounds as swedish as it's possible and don't be greedy with uh-uh-uhs and oh-oh-ohs, people! We need a handful of that!" xsleep

Re: MALTA 2016

Ira Losco will take some beating here given the resources available to her.Although its probably just a bit of fluff Maxine Pace could challenge. She has an Eliza Doolitle vibe about her.She finds the camera's easily even in that studio and the camera's like her bouncy freshness.Does the song grow though over 3 minutes or simply repeat?.Will we need to buy a huge net to catch Mr Woods in if we have "a jumper"?.
Christabelle Borg might go close again as she seems to know how to deliver an up-tempo song.Jessika might have a song to suit her this time. She might look like Chiara from Italy, its just a shame she cant sing like her though.
Far too much poor song writing here.Ooooh aaaaargh aaaaaarghh oooohs everywhere.
Ira challenged by Maxine and Christabelle for me,until we see/hear full songs.

Re: MALTA 2016

Maxine Pace - I have a feeling I've heard this before, nothing new.

Deborah - It's like the extention of the previous song...

Lawrence Grey - Not bad (or at least in comparition to the previous two), don't know...

Brooke - Starts promising, the chorus is dissapointing a bit.

Raquel Glades - Oh, this is just acapella? I'd like to hear it performed!

Corazon - Just yet another dull ballad. Don't like it.

Kimberly Cortis - This could be mine sweet, guilty pleasure xqueenbitch It's great! The best so far!!

Jasmine Abela - NO, no, NOOO, no. .......................................................... NO!

Dominique Azzopardi - she looks terrible, so does she sounds!

Jessica - Awwww, her voice is so sweet xheart This is really nice! #TeamJessica!

Daniel Testa - Not a bad song, but the performer ruins it.

Franklin Calleja - ...

Dario Mifsud Bonnici - dance gurl, dance! This is a HOT HIT of the NF xheart Great song, the choreography xheat

Dominic - not my cuppa tea

Danica Muscat - she has a nice voice, the song is very melodic, but it would die hard on the ESC

Christabelle Borg - don't know, there is something about this girl that I don't like....

Sarah Crystal - don't like it, it's a wierd song

Stefan Galea - 'my heart will boom boom boom for you' xheat what a hot lyrics

Re: MALTA 2016

Maxine Pace - It's OK, but not really a huge fan!

Deborah - This a bit better than the previous, but cannot see it doing much for people.

Lawrence Grey - I like this. I could see myself getting behind it.

Brooke - Again, not bad. Has potential!

Raquel Glades - Can't judge based on that.

Corazon - I need another thirty seconds of that to judge. It could be shit; it could be great.

Kimberly Cortis - Hmm, not bad, but feels a little sickly sweet to me.

Jasmine Abela - Ooof, yes, I could get behind this one too. I like it a lot.

Dominique Azzopardi - The voice is ruining it a little for me; otherwise not terrible.

Jessica - A bit meh really at the moment. Possibly could get me over three minutes, but nowt at the moment.

Daniel Testa - He sounds whiny. I find his voice too annoying to like the song.

Ira Losco I - Can't judge based on that.

Franklin Calleja - OK, he has vocal range, but I wish he didn't. Next please!

Dario Mifsud Bonnici - I can see him doing well. He's above average here, but not a winner for me.

Danica Muscat - Not bothered. Forgettable.

Dominic - Again, need a little longer to properly judge, but I like what I can see so far (bow tie xheat)

Christabelle Borg - For some reason I find this a little offputting. Possibly it's the clapping throughout.

Ira Losco I - Can't judge based on that.

Sarah Crystal - I could see myself getting into this in the end. Depends where she goes with it!

Stefan Galea - Oh goodness me yes please. I like this a lot. Not quite sure why, but more of him PLEASE! :D

Re: MALTA 2016

Maxine Pace - Absolutely love the sound of this xheat

Deborah C - Nice, but she has absolutely 0 star quality

Lawrence Gray - Hate his voice, hate his songs - always the same soppy, clichéed mess

Brooke - Not keen on the lyrics, but she's got a great voice and this would sound brilliant in the arena

Raquel Galdes - Not a lot to judge off, but she has a nice voice so I look forward to this

Corazon - Sounds nice, but a bit middle of the road. Could be good in the full version!

Kimberly Cortis - Saccharine sweet, but I love it. Lovely voice too xlove

Jasmine Abela - DRAMA xheat Full version will be interesting, this could be a contender

Domenique Azzopardi - I'm really liking the sound of this one!

Jessica - Is the flame her hair? Song sounds awesome, as per usual she is a contender

Daniel Testa - Meh, bleh

Ira Losco - Not a lot to judge off really...

Franklin Calleja - I just find him SO irritating - his look, his stage presence, his voice xpuke What a soppy bore of a song too...

Dario Mifsud Bonnici - He's like a 30-odd year old Mans wannabe who likes his pies... Song is uber meh

Dominic - I quite like this, but it's just a typical boy-pop song, complete with oOoahaOOhahh hook

Danica Muscat - Quite dated, but still quite nice

Christabelle Borg - Why is she wearing a tent? Nice song though, this could be her year!

Sarah Crystal - Nice song, but her voice is so weak

Stefan Galea - Bleh

Maxine, Kimberly, Domenique, Brooke, Jessica or Christabelle pls xpray Maxine is a definite finalist at ESC imo xlove

Tents are very in and of the moment, just ask Eteri from Georgia's NF for this year.

Re: MALTA 2016

I like 5 songs from Malta:
Maxine Pace - Young Love
Deborah C - All Around The World
Jessika - The Flame
Dominic - Fire Burn
Christabelle Borg - Kingdom

Dominic is my favourite cos he's the best looking but apart from that I'd like to see Young Love go to Stockholm.

Re: MALTA 2016

This has bothered me for years and I tried googling but was unable to find the answer... Does anyone know if Franklin Calleja is related to Kurt Calleja, or is their common surname just a coincidence?

Re: MALTA 2016

Top 3 from me.
3 Jessika [ Fandango was million times better]
2 Deborah C [Saxo]
1 IRA LOSCO [ 15 seconds and it sounds like a winner to me]+like how dark is the song.
