Re: MALTA 2016 - Ira Losco - Chameleon

with the issue with the changing of song.. I think its stupid to have an act with 2 songs in the NF if they planned on changing the song

If its a contest to pick a singer then they shouldn't have a singer with 2 songs. simple.

If they change it they change it.. I like Chameleon a LOT but if they change it hopefully it will be something even better

Whats interesting is that people were favouring Chameleon so much and now that it has been chosen it's like the compelte opposite. Didnt expect that. I mean, if she comes up with something even better, well, I am open for that, but a tweaked version of Chameleon sounds promising to me as well even if I like the current version a lot.

The rules for the NF only state that the NF is choosing the singer, not the song. But I don't think that they will change it, only revamp it.

Then it is even more questionable why Ira could compete with two songs. If it is the singer who is chosen, a second song gives him or her an advantage.

Aww I was hoping they would at least have the songs on a digital download site (like iTunes or Amazon) so that I could grab some studio quality versions of my fave songs. :(

I think it might be due to Ira's lackluster live vocals for Chameleon. I quite like the studio version, but unless she can really get a lot of vocal practice in before May then it seens likely to flop live in its current form. If other people are thinking along the same lines, then that'd probably explain why they were less excited about the song after hearing it live.

This should have been called invincible, but as we already got one and Malta didn't want to copycat another song title this year, they turned to chameleon instead. Anyway, the title is just about the only interesting thing about this very average song whose future will be to merge and eventually dissolve into eurovision forgetfulness, for which it was created. They may change it if they will, but it won't make any difference so they might as well save themselves the trouble.

This is a good song but definitely needs some changes, especially the violin sound is so outdated, it needs to go.

The violin sound is the only remotely memorable thing about the song. They should totally make it more prominent.

I agree with you but if the violin sounded louder than the respectful limits, that would be way too much...

Synthesized strings get kind of a bad rap as dated and bland, but they're actually one of my favorite production tools. I hope they stay.

The song is ok, but I think won´t be one of my favorites in may. So 6 points from me. I was hoping for Deborah C and Christabelle in the NF, but it was quite clear, that Ira Losco would win the whole thing.

Well, it's definitely an improvement from 7th Wonder (jk) in 2002. It's nice to see how well her vocals have matured from 14 years ago. While I do not find the violins in bad taste, the song does need some tweaking. It's a good strong song but forgettable in its current state. Depending on the quality of the other entries will determine whether or not this will qualify or not.

Although, she could get lucky and have all the entries in this year's contest be complete disasters and get 2nd place again.

I still feel like the issue with Chameleon is less with the song itself - which is pretty good, and has potential for a rework - and more with Ira's lacklustre performance of it. Regardless, if that's not an issue she's able to fix, then perhaps she's better off picking a slightly weaker entry that she can actually perform with some level of confidence.

After hearing it several times, I still have no opinion about this entry. I cannot call it good nor bad.

I am completely indifferent. It feels like a straight line to me unfortunately.

Exactly. It's just.... Meeh. The song doesn't bother me, it's neither good nor bad. I predict it will be easily overlooked at the semifinal if they don't edit or renew the song in some way. (I'm probably still mad because Brooke didn't make it  )

Ira Losco has revamped “Chameleon”, but at the same time – recorded nine other songs, all of which have become Malta’s possible Eurovision entry for 2016! The Maltese national broadcaster TVM has now formed a new international jury from 10 different countries, who will listen to these ten songs, and choose the best one, which then Ira Losco is going to be singing in Stockholm.

So if true basically an internal selection and the public don't play a roll. Why have a national final then? xshrug
