Re: MALTA 2016 - Ira Losco - Chameleon

Ira Losco sang much better songs which are quite different from Chameleon...

I wasn't talking about the quality of the entry, just the principle of changing a winning entry that competed in a national final. I always found it unfair to other participants to sing and win with a song you're not 100% sure you want to send it to the contest. But that's just me I guess

It's less unfair than sending Ann Sophie who came second. xrofl3 (that was kinda a compulsory solution)

If Andreas didn't took part in the NF in the first place  another act would have advanced to final and who knows who'd have won.
Ann Sophie didn't deserve all that humiliation though, she did her job the best she could. :) Personally, I liked her song and performance, and it wouldn't have been last with the 50/50 voting system... Anyways, I hope Germany learned something from this :D

On the one hand, we could say that they learnt something from this dramatic NF's ending. Indeed, they selected Xavier Naidoo during an internal selection prior to organizing a NF. Therefore they'd have organized the traditional NF 'Unser Song Für Xavier'...
On the other hand, they didn't learn anything, even so they did select the artist before the song in order to avoid the case of Ann Sophie who went to Vienna because of the withdrawal of Andreas Kümmert though. On this point, I totally agree with you when you said that this situation was particulary awkward for Ann Sophie who (in the rules) shouldn't have been to Vienna with this horrible song. At this moment, I reflected about that: 'Oh my god, Andreas has left Germany with this crap... How will they react/handle that without being forced to finish in the depths of the scoreboard?'

Well... Andreas may be eager to compete for the crystal trophee of the ESC before the beginning of this whole NF, despite the lack of fairness which means that she should've won the NF and went to Austria.
I mean, did he read the rules and approved it though?

He took the NF as a promotional event  As it was a show specifically made for Eurovision, he couldn't ignore the rules tbh.

Unfair behaviour from a promising artist/singer...

Chameleon is still my favourite song this year (well, amongst my top 3)... I hope they stick with it!

This is really stupid. National broadcaster organizes national selection, people vote (and spend their own money on it!) and choose the song and then some people, including the singer, decide to change it.

That's really not fair for all people who vote. What's the point of the national selection then? Organize internal selection instead.

Anyway, this song is nothing special, but the vote of people should be respected. It's ridiculous.

I only found out today of the drama it is starting to crawl in Malta, because of the ranking game. To be honest I don't really care since I've never liked the song, I can barely remember. Her, as a singer, didn't impress me either. I just think it's unfair to spend your money and time on someone, as a televoter, so you can find out in the end that it was worthless.

They have 9 other songs in their hands + the revamped version of Chameleon.

they actually have 2 new versions of Chameleon.. so I am not sure whether they will have a dance / remix version and a regular version or something... but I think they will be completely different versions

I hope they surprise ..... Everyone in Malta and the Eurovision fans remember Ira, but to the average viewer across Europe she is just the girl that will represent Malta.
So by changing this snooze fest of a song I hope she gets to preform on the big stage more than once, otherwise I cannot see this pulling it off.
An even more cheesy version of "Invincible" ...... And Carola did It better.

Wholeheartedly agree there. Selma also came back after her 2nd place but hardly anyone remembered her, so being a big name doesn't help if the song isn't quite up there!

No news uptil now! Everything is top secret it seems. I am positive the change will be for the better, or am I being too optimistic?

For every successful comeback (Dima/Carola) there's also A LOT of failures. So it will be interesting to see what group Ira joins.

To be honest I've always thought a lot of the "comeback Ira" begging was mainly (but not all) because she placed 2nd the time she participated and gave Malta one of its best results. Because the only comments I hear about 7th Wonder was how cheesy and corny it was. There was not exactly this overwhelming love for it.

You know you're kind of completely right in a way I hadn't realized. I was super excited for Ira's comeback notwithstanding that I think "7th Wonder" is absolute crud (I do like "Chameleon" though). Fun fact by the by: the time between 7th Wonder and Chameleon is greater than the time between Diva and Ding Dong. The two kind of parallel each other in a way, except that while "Diva" is a beloved classic in a bunch of corners, "7th Wonder" (I may be viewing through jade-colored glasses given my opinion of it) isn't exactly regarded as masterful.

So Ira Losco posted about shooting the postcard today.
But that's about it. No news about the song or anything.
