I watched Bohemian Rhapsody on DVD this afternoon, and now I can see why Rami Malek literally dominated awards season this year because he gave an incredible performance as Freddie! Now my mom wants to watch it

It was amazing to see how well they re-created the full Live Aid set

The Invitation Gosh, shocking film.. in a good way. This dinner party thriller is incredibly slow with a tonne of talking but somehow it never got boring. A man called Will is invited along with his girlfriend to a dinner party being held by his ex-wife Eden and her new partner. Will and Eden haven't seen each other in over two years and you learn quickly of a tragedy the pair lived through together before going their separate ways. The house holds some terrible memories for Will, which he struggles to confront whilst cooped up with a bunch of old friends and a couple of weird strangers. When I say this is slow I really do mean it. It's done in an extremely clever way though so that you're constantly trying to work out if people can be trusted. You feel the paranoia and pain of the main character. The last thirty or so minutes were absolutely unforgettable, and a particular scene made my eyes water up. The ending gave me goosebumps too. It was just so well done.

lavieenrose it is indeed, at least where I am. Prepare your body first though before watching it cause I was shook. I think you'll like it. Just make sure you're in the right mood for it because it's powerful.

Also Logan Marshall-Green as Will was a dish delivered. I feel a picture in heart shaped frame sitting upon my bedside cabinet moment coming on.

I haven't posted here in a long while. I've seen a lot of films this year so far, here are some of my recommendations (these are really great especially if you're bored with whatever Netflix or your local cinema has to offer):

Also based on some posts here many of the films I have downloaded are here so I am looking forward to seeing them!

Aw, this! xheart

Btw, i watcher Greta, with Isabelle Huppert tonight...It was ok-ish i guess! :D

Okay-ish would be my choice of words too. For a movie starring Isabelle Huppert as an incredibly glamorous stalker, I felt like they could've made it A LOT campier. Playing it as a straight-up horror film was weird and missed a lot of potential.

Totally agree... I went to watch it because of her and Neil Jordan (love them both) but the film didn't click with me that much! I kind of expected a different approach, too.
Oh well...

great movie, especially if you like movies that don't take themselves too serious

Least fav - Under the Skin
was bored after 30 mins, plot had potential but didn't like the directing style

Silver Linings was also great, and Superbad a classic ofc

Just finished watching this film called Mandy directed by Panos Cosmatos. Described as a psychedelic action horror film. I found it absolutely immense. I've never watched anything quite like it before. I don't even know what I just watched actually, but I knew from the moment I heard my favourite prog rock song Starless by King Crimson play during the opening titles that this was going to be next level. Andrea Riseborough is mesmerizing as Mandy, and Nicolas Cage is Nicolas Cage as Red Miller. He did his thing and it worked so well. Everything is washed over in an almost forever present neon red hue, which was gorgeous, giving the film a haunting, intangible beauty. The world built here is stunning and it's just a shame it's a single movie and two hours spent in it.

Mandy is a revenge tale, I guess you could say to put it most simply. It's got a slow but fascinating start. I was worried actually that it was taking so long to properly get going that it wouldn't be able to fit in everything it needed to do, but it managed just fine. The movie was so perfectly cast, and the director was a genius with the lighting and camera work. In a film with spiky demons riding motorcycles, it's actually the humans that were most twisted, with such foreboding presences. The film has so many startling and cool moments. Also the soundtrack is fantastic. One of the last works from the late Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. If you want something crazy and totally unique to watch, I don't think I can suggest better. Mandy is super trippy and beautiful.

Now Ive finally managed to watch it too and I agree with all of your points :D

one of the most atmospheric and trippy movies Ive ever seen. Love this subtle unsettling feeling of threat that you can feel right from the beginning even when the protagonists still have a peaceful life. This feeling is certainly created by this stunning soundtrack, probably JJ's best work (RIP). Fascinating how this movie at one point turns from an surrealistic arthouse-ish film into a vengence action movie. As if David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino (yes, I see a lot of Tarantinoesque elements in the second part) had a baby. Even Nicholas Cage's typical over-acting suits the movie totally well, cause it is a movie that relies a lot on visual expressions and the power of pictures. Then all those mythological references that I am partly not even able to understand, the display of fragile masculinity and injured pride (refered to the antagonist)... this movie has it all. Moreover in the second part of the movie I actually think youve got two possibilities of interpretation. You can think that all those bizarre happenings and experiences are real within this surrealistic world but you can also think this is the perception of the protagonist as he is consuming drugs and acid and so on while he is on his way to his "final enemy"
What you can miss in this movie is the character writing... you dont get to know a lot about the personalities of Nicholas Cage (no idea what was the protagonist name tbh) and Mandy and how their relationsship is going... but that was just not the focus. The director put the emphasis on atmosphere and aesthetics and he did so well!

I'm so glad you enjoyed Mandy. You described the film extremely well. I too got Quentin Tarantino vibes during the latter half of the film, and I think that was my favourite section of the movie, despite it being quite short. The film certainly requires some patience but grant it that and the way the movie builds itself up is masterfully rewarding. SPOILERS One of my favourite scenes is when Red meets the chemist in the tower with the tiger. It was so surreal.. so pristine. Also that fight when Red picks up a chainsaw and approaches a guy, only for the man to reveal he's sporting a chainsaw himself that's abnormally long. That was some sick, unforgettable imagery. 80s neon, crazy hippies, psychedelia, prog rock, surrealism, horror, Nicolas Cage... the worlds best things all in one movie together.

And the soundtrack was gorgeous. The haunting ambience of the movie is no doubt in large part thanks to Johan Johannsson. I love this piece from the movie. The bit that starts at 2:17 has been floating around my head for months now.
