I heard somewhere that with less than 11 countries the contest would be stopped. I guess they'd still find a way to do it this year with a new voting system but it'd probably be the last edition.

There will be even more countries than last year ;) And it won't be the last edition for sure. With the new supervisor Vlad Yakovlev and the changes in the format, JESC will rise...just like a phoenix :D

We have 9 officially confirmed countries...

Greece, Italy, San Marino plus maybe Hungary (as already stated) likely to be in Marsa

Plus the EBU are working with other countries to try and get returns / debuts

I predict 15 participants

The whole thing will be targeted more to the teens and more adult auditory. The top three countries in the final standings will be awarded with trophies, the fees are much more affordable as well. There will be some activities with school children from the host country and the event will consist of more things than what's shown on TV in the final evening. As far as I know, for sure there will be more countries taking part than last year (most probably their number will be between 14 and 18) with Greece, Cyprus and maybe Bulgaria being back, Italy and Hungary debuting and Moldova, San Marino and Azerbaijan staying in the line-up. There are talks with many broadcasters, so it's possible to have many other surprises in addition to the highly rumoured ones ;)

Ok, I have honestly not paid so much attention the last two years mostly because the quality of the songs is pure **** in overall, the last two winners were good at least which was very important for the image of the contest, when :ge: won in 2011, I was very convinced that JESC wouldn´t exist for more than 2-3 more years. So if was very pleased that :ua: and :mt: became the winners the last two editions because they had great songs.

For the first time under SVT, :se: has a great song. (The songs that were selected under TV4 were great)

So it´s great that EBU are really working on JESC because under the older format, it would have been dead in a few years. The massive effect will not come this year but maybe next year

I think that even this year there will be huge difference in a positive direction in comparison with what've been before. Many broadcasters are really considering the option to try again with JESC as the new concept really looks quite interesting ;)
We have very dedicated host like Malta as well to make all these plans happen in the reallity. So I'm really positive about the future of JESC.

I think this year is destined to be a flop when it comes to the list of participants.

This is really surprising, to be honest. I hope EBU gets some countries to join.

So we're still waiting for news from:
:az: Azerbaijan
:cz: Czech Republic
:mk: F.Y.R. Macedonia
:it: Italy
:md: Moldova
:ro: Romania
:sm: San Marino

I believe the minimum number of participants is 12, I'm sure at least three countries from the list above is possible!
