WV67 NF: Ethnic Fusion
It's time for another Japan NF! Two entries in to my run as Japan, and while I'm happy with the songs I've sent, neither one has really shown any hints of traditional Japan. Hoping to send something different in every edition, I figured this was the time to change that - and so I've made up an NF of songs that draw upon those ethnic sounds. At the same time, though, most of these are somewhat contemporary songs - I haven't gone entirely traditional here. I'm a big fan of music that fuses together different styles and influences, so that's what I've put together. Despite the theme, I've tried to add in a decent amount of variety, so hopefully there'll be a little something for everyone!
We jump straight into the action with
Nuedori, a thumping tribal power ballad with lyrics in archaic-styled Japanese. Next up is
Endless Story, a fun little piece of contemporary pop with East Asian influences in the instrumentation, before we dive into the 'purest' ethnic song of the NF:
Yakusoku, a short, moving instrumental piece with a very typically Japanese sound. The NF's second half kicks off with the Touhou remix track
Kachou Fuugetsu, an atmospheric synth ballad incorporating a range of styles, before shaking off our emotions with the ethnic bubblegum pop sounds of
Hakkin Disco. Finally we have
Sanka, a beautiful instrumental piece mixing Japanese sounds and imagery with Western instruments. For anybody who's interested, I've translated the song titles below in square brackets, and I'm also intending to provide a translation of whichever song wins the NF (assuming it has lyrics in the first place, of course). Now, without further ado - the songs!
1. Suara - Nuedori [White's Thrush]
2. Yukari Tamura - Endless Story
3. Toshio Masuda - Yakusoku [Promise]
4. Yuuhei Satellite - Kachou Fuugetsu [Nature's Beauty]
5. Yuka Iguchi - Hakkin Disco [Platinum Disco]
6. Ryo Mizutsuki - Sanka [Scattered Petals]
RECAP
My apologies if any ads appear on the videos - they're not mine. Apparently the uploads got some copyright claims that automatically tacked ads onto them. They should still be viewable, though - tell me if there are any problems, and I should be able to find an alternate source!
Voting System: The same one as last time around, since it worked rather well: 10-7-5-3-2-1. Please PM your votes to me on the forums, or via email at

I'm looking forward to your thoughts and votes, and I'm hoping you found something to enjoy!
